    Snooker,

If I understand you, you currently have Pro on an existing system and you'll be getting a new pc with pro on it. Correct?

Deactivate? No need - and never heard of an option to do so. If you want to put 9X or something on it, fine, just clean install over XP.

The new system's pro will have been activated by the OEM.

    Regards - Charles

If you're using the same copy of XP on the new one as the old, you'll have to call Microsoft. I know it doesn't sound like fun but I don't think you'll run into any problems. From what I understand, they're pretty good about this sort of thing.

Snooker In general, you are doing what people are supposed to do...have only only a single installation of Windows XP per copy. When they move it to a new computer, they are supposed to deactivate the old.

Some do. Some don't. Apparently, Microsoft will take people's world they have done such.

Sometimes, depending upon which version of XP they have, RETAIL or OEM, they may only be allowed to UPGRADE their current system, not move it.

What is upgrade. What is moving it? You will have to call Microsoft to reactive the new installation. I suggest that you say UPGRADE! They'll give you the new code.
