Windows maintains I have activated the XP key too often (true)

They are after a new key to be submitted....don't have one..only the original.

Am I in a bit of a stretch here or is there some way around this.

I have been in a similar situation - which was easily resolved ....

Choose the telephone option for Activation, your code will not be accepted - no surprise there :), but you will then be put through to an 'operative' - explain what you have been up to in terms of hardware changes, problems, reasons for reinstalling, etc and they should give you a new key.

Roy - glad to hear that is resolved. I have always found MS staff in the UK to be helpful and courteous - can't necessarily say the same for Adobe :)
