I've been using a web accelerator for my dialup connection ( "Zoomer ", from CenturyTel, my provider. There are others, Earthlink offers one, etc) When you set it for maximum acceleration it seriously degrades graphics and pictures. With Explorer, or Crazy Browser, I can right click and get a menu that includes "Refresh page (or picture) with full quality" as well as the usual. With Firefox I DON'T get those options with a right click. Is there a fix? Thanks.

Ed, this is another case where software is designed for Internet Explorer, and not for the later Netscapes, or Mozillas. Your question should be posed to the software developers .
They mention Netscape up to 4.7, and that's it.

Now I'm not a software designer, but I do know a little bit about packets (data being sent via the web). I would "assume " (not to be confused with the old pun) that an excellerator PROBABLY removes some of the detail, specifically within graphics. Consider 16 bit vs 24 bit vs 32 bit.

Websites that are built entirely with CSS-text only vs graphic intense websites, load considerably faster. This is by design.

The accelerator probably degrades the graphics, thereby rendering the website faster. The term "FASTER" is completely relative to your connection.

Now I realize this doesn't answer your question, but I hope it gives you a better explanationof WHY.

    Regards

At least with the accelerator I tried, there was an option by right-clicking the tray icon to turn off the acceleration temporarily and load graphics normally, or to set the acceleration to any of 5 different levels, each with increasingly worse graphics.

Actually, when I examined the .ini file for that accelerator, I noticed a lot of its controls were set to be hidden. When I removed those entries, I had about 10 more options on the right-click menu.

Hmmmm... that may be beyond my abilities. How did you do that? How did you tell that the options were hidden? How did you fix it? Thanks.

Ed, (BTW hi :D ). With my limited knowlege - when I wish a graphic at best quality, I just disable Accelerator before the image is requested. That's just the bigger hammer approach and not fine tuned for what you ask. None of the "hidden files" or other stuff. (Note my signature as to level)

My original answer referred to whoever developed the accelerator. Either your ISP, or whoever made the thing. The link I gave you was to the website of Zoomer. But, you can try the hammer technique, but, don't try it while feeling the depth of water with both feet!

    "Hi" to you too!

Well, thanks to all. I've emailed the CenturyTel Zoomer 'help' folks, but have not heard back yet. I'll use the big hammer if I HAVE to, but I'd sure like that good 'ol right click!

There has been a weekend in between, and few if any sites respond, but there is their website from which I gather the info posted above.

Yes, thanks. I emailed the tech support and they referred me to their online tech support, who referred me to their 800 number phone support who wasn't much (any) help. :( I'll keep digging away at it. Thanks again.
