    Hey all,
I'm a little confused about the NICs in my new server. We only have 25 pc's or so on the network.....Win2k, SBS. We have a router that gets us to the internet. It's our default gateway. Is it necessary for me to have a second NIC for internet traffic, or does that traffic not even go through the server because of the default gateway???
    Thanks,
    RPC

Post back with any questions. I haven't read these articles myself.
I'd like to know if they were well written and informative.
    For my own future referrence.

If you have a router that connects to your internet provider (via some sort of dial-up or broadband modem) you will only need one NIC per PC.

ICS shouldn't be used/needed for this at all.

If you need more information, please post details (like the model number and maker) of your router.

As the server is SBS I'd use the ISA server thats included with it, in which case you need 2 NICs and the netowrk between the 2nd NIc and the router will be on a different subnet

ISA is a poor firewall, but if your router is currently on your network then you dont appear to have a firewall at all so its better then nowt !

Main reason for using ISA is for its caching engine which is actually quite good

The setup of ISA is a bit in depth for a post of this nature but why not have a go and post back any problems

    ??????

Sounds like you answered your own original post in this last message.

It is a good thing that on the WWW we can go next door by going around the world to get there.

Someone made good money on you network wiring and second NIC's!

    But whatever works! LOL!
