Geez, couldn't figure out which section to post to...

Anyway, I was wondering, is it possible to merge windows 98 with Windows 98 Second Edition Updates into a CD? For a long time, if i do a full format, i have to go through 2 process

    1) Install the Original Edition of windows 98
    2) Insert the Second Edition Updates (From Microsoft) and go through the whole process again.

Hmm, also, what about replacing IE 5 in second edition updates CD with IE6 (so that it installs IE6 instead of IE5)?

    3) Get M$ Updates

Get a program like Ghost and make a copy of your hard drive.

Ah, so that means, an image of the 'brand new' files in windows? Then, I burn it into a CD so that in future i need to restore (or fresh install again), I simply extract it from the CD? So, this includes all the drivers etc?

I need to get something clearde up here.

If you are refering to 98 SE $20 UPDATE CD then that requires 98 to be INSTALLED first. And was not one of MS better ideas.

Unlike the SE UPGRADE it can not be re-installed over itself from DOS if the need arises.

You would be by far better off to get the SE UPGRADE CD which will go in clean.

If I am thinking correctly you are refering to the install files. I do not know of anyway to merge ( slipstream ) the install files.

Also if you have the 98 UPGRADE and the 98 SP1 then you are by far better of to stick with them. Unless you can find the SE UPGRADE CD.

I also got tired of doing two installs and got the SE UPGRADE Which will go in clean from DOS or overtop from DOS.

And if you are refering to the install files Ghost won't help.

    Something else I just realized.

If the install files are indeed being referred to then two different versions of Windows are being referred to also.

    Hi BillyBob,

Yes, you are right about the merging of the installation files (slipstream) which I was trying to ask.

I've got the $20 Update Disk which you mentioned.

So, I guess, I'll stick with the 2 steps installation which I've been doing all these while.

Meanwhile, what's the purpose of Ghost (which Newt mentioned)anyway?

We do have to be extra careful with Win98 SE and make VERY sure we are referring to the UPGRADE or UPDATE.

And I myself like to double check to make sure which is being referred to.

As to Ghost, I will let Newt explain that. I am not familiar with it at all.
