I m trying to upgrade to a new HDD but first problem is the 160 GB HDD Maxtor is behaving not as I know of , I connected it on secondery IDE channel , the XP recognized him but when coming to create a partition on HDD I m used to praimery partiton & it gave me an option of "Simple" , that was the only option , my main HDD is 80 GB & he is behaving differnt , the new HDD is also declared by XP as dynamic drive so I assume it's something new for me , I used Norton Ghost to copy drive C System to the new HDD drive C but it was not working , any advice will be blased.

    Thank's

The way you describe, you got your drive operating as a dynamic drive. If you want to use it instead of your "C" drive, it is not wat you want.

You better start over, and pay closer attention on how you format this drive.

Questions for my own eventual use maybe.

If left all in one partition, could it be the SIZE ( 160gig ) that is that problem ?

Is it possible that Cluster size capabilites come into play ?

Also I have heard that coping WD to a Maxtor may not work well.

I copied a 98SE 7 partition WD 40gig to a WD 80gig but I used the WD software and it was all done in DOS. The darn thing worked just like it had always been there. The 80gig is the one that now has XP pro on it.

If I'm right, there should be a link Click Here the bottom of the message box... when you click it, any errors listed?

Have a look in the event log, anything listed there? (Start > Run and type eventvwr.msc, hit ok. Check the System log).

Sorry for late reaction , I attached a few screen prints regarding the problem
including this URL : http://oca.microsoft.com/en/dcp20.asp , I don't realy know what's the meening of that , my hunch is something regarding Windows XP licence , when installing XP the SP2 is making some inventory of computer parts like HDD , Ram & processor.
