Kid mess with computer and don't know what he did, when I try to install programs, or run certain apps i get and error that reads C:\WINDWOS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is no suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. I am running Windows XP Pro

Download and run this 16-bit subsystem repair tool. That will likely fix you right up.

Generally what has happened is, one or more of the 16-bit legacy accommodation files, Config.nt, Autoexec.nt, or Command.com is missing or corrupt. This download tool copies new default versions of those files over the old ones.

    Good luck.
