Did you look through all of the options? I know Outlook 2010's calendar defaults to Monday but the "start" day can be changed to Sunday.

There are all sorts of "tweaking tools" that can do all sorts of things...some can probably do it... www.tweakxp.com might also have info.
You should disable them one at a time and double check that your favorite sites ect still work.
Can't say I've ever seen the basic version... Back to your original issue - approx how many icons do you have on the desktop with the original...
Log in with the original account that I'm guessing is an admin account.... Right click on My Computer->Manage->Local Users and Groups->USER -...
You can remedy both of those items;) Sounds like the original profile is partially corrupt...which happens from time to time.

Guessing you have the battery right side up...Guessing you got an exact replacement battery. Try a different battery from a different store.
Did you adjust the time in the BIOS?
