Is it only an AGP port on the mobo? And it may be that you have a faulty motherboard.

There is an alternative method, that I have used in the past - it involves a Linux disk that runs straight off the disc, no installation required....
Are you sure the video cards are in the right type of port? The three common types are AGP, PCI and PCIe. Have you tried another monitor...
