Cum update win10 ver 22H2 KB5031356 fails to update.

Subject update fails to install in my HP Pavillion desktop, but downloaded just fine on my HP laptop. I tried the suggestions to get it to download. Nothing works. What puzzles me is that on the same day another update installed just fine and the next day still another update installed with no problems. I noticed on microsoft community site and on reddit that a lot of others are having the same problem. Does anyone know if microsoft plans on sending a fix for this problem? I have paused the updates for now because a lot of others say that this update has messed up their computers. Among the things I tried was a restore but it failed.

Updates are finicky. One update (don't remember which), just refused to update on all computers except one (all Win 10). After multiple tries, gave up. It automatically got installed on all computers subsequently all without me doing anything

It installed OK on my only Windows 10 Desktop Comp on the 19/10/2023.
This comp does not comply with W11 requirements and it will eventually fade out in the future.

 

There has been another Cumulative Update since KB5031356.
This new one installed on my comp last night without any problems.
KB5031445 Plus KB5031224 and KB5031904.
These have installed from 19/10/2023 through to 28/10/2023.

Yes, 5001736 installed on 10-12 and 5031224 on 10-10, Also 5031904 installed on 10-27 and 5031356 was pending on restart on 10-27, so I reset to holding downloads for another week. Still on holding downloads. Afraid to see if 5031356 will work or hang up like it did 4 times before now. Still don't understand why all these other work just not 5031356.

 

Is there a chance that 5001716 could make 5031356 work?

 

Have you tried pausing any 3rd Party Anti-Spyware/Malware programs you may have running while the MS Updates are Downloading and installing?

 

Could give it a try. But, my anti virus does not stop the other updates from downloading and installing.

 

There are always exceptions to the rules.

 

Also kb5031356 installed successfully on my win 10 22H2 laptop with no problems and my anti virus was not turned off.

 

still no real fixes from microsoft. Perhaps it is their way of forcing us to use win 11, which is not compatible with my desktop in question. Seen a lot of so called fixes on other sites but, am afraid to make things worse if I try some of them.
