I've been using Thunderbird for several years but all the e-mail clients I used before it (Eudora, Outlook, etc.) had an outbox, allowing mail to be sent on a schedule. For instance, if the mail server was down, I could leave the mail in the outbox and the e-mail client would attempt to send every so-many minutes (whatever interval I had set it for) until it was finally sent.

Can this be achieved in Thunderbird?

That add-on cannot be installed because it has not been verified.

Also, I think that add-on has been superseded by that feature having been built into Thunderbird, File> Send Later> Send. It simply goes into the Local Folders Outbox and sits there.

What I am wanting is something that works like Eudora's outbox did, or Outlook's outbox that would send on next check and keep trying at my user-set check intervals.

"Thunderbird has an Outbox folder in the Local Folders account for deferred or delayed sending, for example when Thunderbird is offline. (Normally, Thunderbird usually sends messages directly without using the Outbox.)

Note: In previous versions of Thunderbird, the Outbox was named Unsent Messages."

Yes, I know that and I have tried it and the mail sits in that outbox indefinitely. Sending from there requires manual user intervention.

There is no send on check. I have Thunderbird configured to check for mail at set intervals. What I am wanting something that will send on check.

Approx how often do you get mail stuck in your Outbox?

Thunderbird does not have a traditional outbox. It is a manual Send button instead. The outbox located in the Local Folders never sends anything. It is designed that way. So everything in that outbox is "stuck" until the user opens the outbox and clicks on Send.

Outlook Express and All versions of Outlook that I've used behave the same way. I think at worst, I'd average 2 or 3 stuck emails a YEAR.... How about you, is the number higher?

Outlook and (now defunct) Outlook Express had a send-on-check feature. So did Eudora. Thunderbird does not.

On rare occasions, my mail server is down, happened about three times this year that I know of for two hours or less. At those times is when I wish I had a send-on-check feature. Everything in Thunderbird's outbox is "stuck" -- until I manually open and send what is in there so that makes Thunderbird's outbox useless to me.

The last few days, I have been sending some important e-mails that needed to go right away but my mail server (HostGator) was down for over an hour -- and I had to leave my office for a meeting so I had to wait and send the mail later, two-and-a-half hours later.

Thunderbird needs an in-built send-on-check feature.

Email them and ask them if this is possible.
