One more thing to try: Use Power Options to set the computer to NEVER sleep or hibernate, and to NEVER turn off hard drives.
Control Panel > Power Options > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
This eliminates certain software as a cause of the problem.

Seems like I have to try one thing at a time. Since it can run for days before failing again, this could (continue to) be a long, frustrating process. No other logs to look at to help better define the problem?

Another blackout period. I guess that eliminates the UPS as a suspect. I tried removing all of the molexes from the power supply except for the CPU, motherboard and SATA that feeds my SSD C drive. I also reset those little mobo connectors for the power switch, reset switch, power light and HDD light. That was a challenge ‍. Nothing made a difference.

Can one purchase a power supply and then return it if it doesn’t fix the problem?

Tony, I will try your power options suggestions next, if my computer reanimates.

I think your idea of try and return would not be acceptable by Electronics suppliers. That would need to be negotiated at the point of sale?
I would check if there was a competent Technician in your area who could test the PSU for you.

The computer was dead all day yesterday. I decided to purchase a PSU from Amazon (with free returns) yesterday and see what happens. I figure that a tech to test the PSU would cost at least $50 and the PSU is around $80. All told, seems like the smart move. This morning, after having put the UPS back into the loop, I turned it off for 30 minutes, and then tried to turn it on. It did!! Though I must say that I have uplugged the computer before without benefit. At this point, now I await the PSU delivery. It's like the elephant in the room and I need to eliminate that one particular possibility. RT, thanks for your conservative, thoughtful approach. I will report back this weekend (if not earlier for some unforseen reason). If it works, I will still need help rebuilding Windows permission issues, etc.
    Thanks!

Just for your info, Evan's suggested PSU ($129.32 USD) is $274.85 NZD!!
Is the Amazon $80.00 PSU the same Modular and Power output?

    Wow!!

My original was an EVGA Nex750 Gold Full Mod, and I went for a Nex650 Gold Full Mod. Molex's lined up. I did a calc and minimum is 500W and with removing the overclocking, I figured 650 should be more than enough... and was $50 less, too.

Oh, and Tony, I turned off the Sleep function in Power Options.

Just a little update. I received the PSU but have not used it. I want to wait until it "goes dark" again to install. However, the comp has been working great all week (seemingly since I turned off Sleep?). We'll see.

So far so good. Question regarding Window's "Sleep" function. If that is at least part of what my computer's problem has been, does that only point at software as the cause, or could it still be a problem with the PSU (or other hardware)? I ask because hardware is certainly affected by the "sleep" instruction. Thanks.

If the computer has been shutting itself completely off then that still indicates a hardware issue with the power supply or some other component. If the shut down happens again then you know you will need to swap out the power supply.

I would note that this shut down has never been 100% complete as it still kept a voltage feed to at least the card reader header's LED. What could that mean?

The power supply could be faulty and worn out and even though certain components retain power, having the entire system shut off randomly and its happened on more than one occasion is concerning.

Do you think that the Sleep Mode status is simply coincidental?

I have used Sleep mode on all my computers be it desktop or laptop and have never had it shut down completely.

If you wish to keep using this unit, You will need to have the board checked by a very able technician as there may be a heat affected circuit connection causing the problem.
This sort of cost will probably be part of the renewal cost of a new motherboard.;)

Well, it died again and would not restart (right away, at least) so I replaced the PSU. Comp started up right away so the timer has begun. I'll be back with an update.

Toes, too. I also turned the Sleep function (Power Options) back on to help make it a true test.
