    OS: Windows 10
    Browser:. Chrome and Edge

We have wired and wireless internet connection, but webpages will not load. They start to load/flash on the screen briefly before going back to the browser home page in both Chrome and Edge.

Also, we cannot open folders/files in Documents, Downloads, etc.

Our internet connection is working. Emails come thru.

We have run Malwarebytes, Avast and **** Cleaner.
We have cleared cache and cookies.

We tried to restore to previous date/version, but it shows none?

    Looking for suggestions/help please!

Hi Shelly, Have you tried shutting down the comp and re-starting after leaving it for 10 minutes or so?
Are all your MS updates installed?
What Build version are you working on?
Have you run the OS Troubleshooter?

[We tried to restore to previous date/version, but it shows none?]
You need to have activated a Restore point for this to work in W10.

What version of W10 do you have , Home or Pro?

    Morning,

Yes we have tried restarting numerous times of the last couple of days.
We have also restarted our router as well.
All of our MS Updates are current.
Yes we have run the troubleshooter and it shows nothing to troubleshoot.

I will have to look at our version when I get home from work this afternoon.

    Thank you!

    Windows 10 HomeOS Build:. 19043.1349
    Version 2141

We tried starting in safe mode and everything works fine.

After restart it is back to the same problem. If I try to open webpages or folders in a new window, some times it will work once, but then just revert back to the home page.

Not sure what else to try?

Perhaps checking for corrupt system files would help. Open a Command Prompt window with administrative rights and type in this command. This will run the System File Checker, it will scan for and replace any corrupt system files.
    sfc /scannow

    Hi,

    Download Winsock Repair Tool.

When you open the program run the reset TCP/IP and Winsock Repair options in the program then reboot the computer and let me know if the Internet works.

    Hi,

Ok... I was just about to submit this post:

We downloaded the windsock repair tool and ran reset TCP/IP and Winsock Repair options and rebooted. Same problems still. We can click on a link in an email and get a website to open, but as soon as you click on something else on the page, nothing happens. Our Internet is working fine, but something is preventing folders, files and webpages from opening. They starts to open and then doesn't. Any idea why everything works in safe mode?

When my husband noticed that mouse clicks worked fine. The first key strike on the keyboard and the problemb resumed??? After 5 days of endless hours my husband suggested swapping keyboards... I thought it was going to be a waste of time, but it worked! Have you ever heard of a keyboard "Microsoft" brand causing this type of problem.

Thank you for the suggestions and help.

Yes. Hardware can cause odd problems as well as cables.
You don't mention whether the Mouse and keyboard are wired or wireless?
Nice to know you've discovered the cause of your problem.;):)

Both the keyboard and mouse were wired, and have been replaced with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

I am surprised that the problem didn't occur in safe mode though.

    Thanks again!

    Hi Shelly,
I assume you were using Basic Safe Mode.
Safe Mode with Networking or Safe Mode with Command Prompt are the other modes available.

Windows 11 Windows 10. Safe mode starts Windows in a basic state, using a limited set of files and drivers. If a problem doesn't happen in safe mode, this means that default settings and basic device drivers aren't causing the issue.
