I have a 10 year old lenovo laptop. I can't get into the bios.
    Here is the detailed version.

I took my HD out, replaced it with another one I had around. I installed another OS (starts with L) and set it up. I couldn't shut it down, and had other set up problems. I needed to get some work done, so I put my Windows 10 HD back in.

It goes right into Windows now, can't get to start up or BIOS. F2 is start up and F12 is BIOS. Nothing works. I tried to flash to UEFI but as soon as the flash almost gets done, I get a blue screen.
Now I'd be happy just to get back to legacy working right.

When I put the other HD in, one of the things that happened was I had to push the on/off button to get it to shut down. When I put the Windows HD back in, it started doing the same thing.

Can't remember what all I've done as I type this, but I followed the usual procedures on many sites.

    What can I try?

P.S. No, it's not delete or F10 or any other one. It clearly says F2 for start up, and F12 for BIOS. I have done this many times in 10 years.

    Thank you for any replies.

Press and hold the Fn key while repeatedly pressing the F12 key.

Are you using the lappy keyboard or an external keyboard? If external - unplug it.

And if internal, try an external.

I would remove the battery for a minute and retry.

I have a Z570. Not using external keyboard. I have removed the battery no change. I already tried the things in the link but they did not work. I even removed the cmos battery for several hours but no change.

One suggestion was f1 or f2. I would not think changing a hd then back to the one you had before would change the keys to get into the bios. I could try it to see if changing the HD would change the way to get into the bios to rule it out.

The computer originally came with Windows 7. I'm running Windows 10 on it. I could try installing the original 7 disks and try and get in, then reinstall 10. Someone did that in order to download the uefi. Not that I want the uefi now, just that someone couldn't update the bios, so they went back to win 7, updated then upgraded back to win 10. I was able to get to the bios with win 10 on this computer before now, so might not work.

Sounds like Win10 fast startup is enabled. That can zip you past the bios.
Google - turn off win10 fast startup

    Since it's a laptop (T420 thinkpad?)
I'd save resetting cmos for last.

LOL Chris we posted at same time

    Thank you for the reply's.

Fast startup is not enabled. Link from Lenovo is for UEFI. I don't have that. I have the old bios.

Hi Chris, Question = Did you in fact look through the link I posted?
There are several video links explaining how to get into BIOS or UEFI.
There is an explanation regarding the need to use the FN key in conjuction with the F1 or F2 keys.
There is also a process to use/or not use dependent on the Colour of the FN key.
There is also a "Chat" connection with Lenovo which I thought may be the final resort.
