I have a Fujitsu FI-1640Z scanner that worked fine hooked to one of my Win10 PCs. I recently switched to a different Win10 PC, but it won't see the scanner and won't install it. I downloaded and installed ScanAll Pro from the Fujitsu website (among all the other downloads!) but it too does not see the scanner. I've tried all the variations of turning off/on of the PC and the scanner but to no success. Hoping someone can offer some sound advice on how to make the scanner functional again on this new PC. TIA !!

Give Vuescan a try - works great with my ancient Canon Lide 35 scanner for which there are no Windows 10 drivers and my Nikon Coolscan IV film scanner. As i recall there is a free trial version although this watermarks the scans.

I might try hooking it back up to the first W10 PC and see if it still works there. The typical complaint is it worked fine on Windows 7 or XP but not on W10. But since you already had it working with W10, I see no reason it should not work with another W10 system.

    How is the scanner connected?
You use the work 'Hooking' so I would suspect you mean USB.
    Have you tried another connection?
Have you disconnected all other peripherals to see if the comp will "see" it
Have you tried the Troubleshoot in W10 to see if that helps?
There is also Compatibility Mode in W10.

Is it plugged directly into a known good USB port on the pc and NOT a usb hub?

Using Vuescan and plugged in to a hub - scanner was recognized and worked fine.
Using Vuescan and plugged in to the PC directly - was recognized and worked fine.

Using Windows Fax and Scan and plugged in to a hub - scanner not recognized.
Using Windows Fax and Scan and plugged directly into PC - scanner not recognized

Connections are USB with new cable.

Connection is USB with new cable.

See answer above to Steve re: other aspects. Did not disconnect all other peripherals. Windows troubleshooting of no value.. Not sure how to do compatibility mode in Win10 I guess.

Why do you need to use Windows Fax and Scan?
I've had a number of HP Deskjet All in One printers and always used the HP software without problem.
Surely the Fujitsu software/drivers will do the job?

Whether I hook the Fuji up to the PC directly or through a hub, Windows refuses to see it when I try to use Windows Fax and Scan .I like using F&S because I have better control for storage, printing, etc. I downloaded ScallAll Pro from the Fuji website but that does not seen to help. There are so many software downloads available on the Fuji site, it's difficult - at best - to determine just which one is the one needed to make the scanner work in Win10.

Why I asked the question about Windows FAX & Scan is that very few would use FAX machines these days.
I dumped our Fax unit several years ago as you can do all you want with EMAIL.
I was wondering whether the FAX part of Windows software is looking for a phone landline?
Have you contacted Fuji for help?
Do they have a "Chat" line?

Yeah, fax machines need to go away but I don't see it happening any time soon. The problem is health care. There is no global standard for electronic health records (EHR). So different doctors, hospitals, laboratories, insurance companies, even countries use different EHR software, formats, and systems. So if your primary care provider sends you to a specialist, or needs special blood tests from an outside lab, for example, results and patient records originally recorded by Software A, have to be printed out and faxed to the other doctor, then scanned and saved so Software B can properly display it.

I note late last year, I changed beneficiary information on some investments I have and the broker wanted me to sign and fax a new tax form. The reason being, they wanted to see and compare my signature with what they have on file for me. Fortunately, my HP multi-function All-in-One lets me fax directly from the printer so no need to deal with HP (or Windows) fax software. But I did have to hook up my phone line and remember to temporarily disable call waiting while faxing so no one would "beep in" and break the connection. I'm not sure what I would have done if I wasn't such a Luddite and didn't still have a landline.

And then there's the part where I've been taking pictures of signed docs and texting or emailing them.... Recent insurance paperwork required 7 photos..... I refused to do it and made them let me inside their office... I did offer to send in a photo of my vaccine card. LOL

A bit off topic but I have over the last 18 months had to send copies of EPOA's* to Banks, Insurance Coy's, Government Dept's and other groups.
I hold EPOA's over my wife and sister-in-law and there are 22 pages for each of them.
Scanning and sending as attachments (3 emails for each) and they are saved for future use.
This can all be done electronically these days which saves quite a bit of shoe leather!

I ended up buying the basic version of VueScan, which was recommended in this thread. It works great and will do what I need to do. Win10 fax&scan works fine with my HP AIO.

Glad to hear that Vuescan worked for you - it's a very competent piece of software :) Thanks for the update.
