The most recent update of Windows 10 (Version 1809, 64-bit) has left my machine in an unwanted state.
When I go to log in, I get a choice of users listed on the bottom left side of the screen. However, if I lock the screen (Win-L) the only user I can now log into is the one I locked. Only when I log out of the logged in user will get the full list of users shown to select from.
This is true no matter the rights of the user - Admin or std user / local account.

This is annoying because I often skip between different users when testing things.
Most of my accounts have no associated email account, although I tested whether having a Microsoft email account as Std User or Admin to see if it made any difference; it does not. Why would Microsoft have changed this behaviour so that only one user can be logged on at a time, even if that user has disconnected?!?

    Has anyone else encountered this?
Has anyone found how to resolve the problem?

The most "recent" version of Windows 10 is 1903!
There were bugs in 1809 if I remember correctly but I would advise updating to 1903 which should fix any problems.;)

Thanks for that info. My machine doesn't report there's an update for Windows [beyond the installed 1809]. However, I found for the specific problem, which 1809 could well be the cause of, that User Fast Switching was off. I had to enable it thru changing the registry as I couldn't get to / find it thru Control Panel, so that problem is gone. Now to get myself up to 1903 on my 3 machines!

Just run Windows Update on my main desktop ... only update available is "2019-06 Cumulative Update for .NET Framework 3.5, 4.7.2 and 4.8 for Windows 10 Version 1809 for x64 (KB4503864)" which requires a reboot. Maybe when I've done that the 1903 update will be accessible.
UPDATE: yes, 1903 is now an available update, so my Windows is now "working on it". Seems the .NET Framework update had to be applied before I could see it.
Once again, many thanks for the useful information.

There have been recent Posts about W10 reception problems. Security is the #1 reason and to ensure that your 3rd party software is compatible.
When the 1903 install is complete - your OS Build should be 18362.175 ;)

Thought I'd post an answer directly addressing your reply. "Fast User Switching" used to be on (for years ;)), but was now off - so I set it back on with registry zap as mentioned in the other post.
PS: This machine is running Home edition.

It's a pity Microsoft doesn't provide any option in the Settings GUI interface to set it on or off .

In Windows 10 Home Edition > Open the Shut Down Windows dialog by Alt+F4, click the down arrow, choose Switch user in the list and hit OK. Way 3: Switch user via the Ctrl+Alt+Del options. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del on the keyboard, and then select Switch user in the options.
Did you use these options as Home Edition doesn't run gpedit.msc.

Thanks for that info. So many ways to do the same thing! Will remember those options from now on (I hope).
