When will I see v1809 or even v1903?

Since the update to v1803 I have had, at regular intervals, all of the relevant updates. I have had no message or indication that my computer is not suitable for any future upgrade.

I am happy with v1803, but will Microsoft support that for the future?

I am still on 1803 also. I would say they will support it as it is their decision or reasoning why we are not upgraded further.

We run into that dilemma of what is what. My understanding is that a "cumulative update" is one of those with a KB-number, issued on a monthly basis.

Those are bi-annual "feature updates" (or what they are called). If I recall correctly, the first one was called an "upgrade" to distinguish it from "updates".

Every version (1903, 1809 and others still supported) get their monthly cumulative updates and as I understand it, MrBill's sytem get those but has not yet been offered versions 1809 or 1903, right?

Maybe, there's a reason for this (not being offered new versions) but if you use a good system imaging program and create a new image of the currently up-to-date system (to restore if there actually IS a reason), you might use the Media Creation Tool to cretae an ISO (not an USB) and run the "feature update" to 1903 locally.

Be aware that the image of the system is vital since it may go "pear shaped"!

Microsoft started rolling out a new wave of cumulative updates for Windows 10 last night. The company is releasing updates for almost all the supported versions of the OS, including the initial version of Windows 10, as well as the latest version.

As for the latest version, the Windows 10 May 2019 Update (version 1903), Microsoft has rolled out KB4503293, which brings the build number up to 18362.175. It’s a fairly minor update, and contains mostly security fixes:

    • Addresses a security vulnerability by intentionally preventing connections between Windows and Bluetooth devices that are not secure and use well-known keys to encrypt connections, including security fobs. If BTHUSB Event 22 in the Event Viewer states, “Your Bluetooth device attempted to establish a debug connection….”, then your system is affected. Contact your Bluetooth device manufacturer to determine if a device update exists. For more information, see CVE-2019-2102 and KB4507623.
    • Security updates to Windows Virtualization, Microsoft Scripting Engine, Internet Explorer, Windows App Platform and Frameworks, Windows Input and Composition, Windows Media, Windows Shell, Windows Server, Windows Authentication, Windows Cryptography, Windows Storage and Filesystems, Windows SQL Components, the Microsoft JET Database Engine, and Internet Information Services.
The update notably includes an issue with Windows Sandbox where the feature might not be able to start working for some users, so make sure to checkout the full changelog.

Microsoft has also released updates for the other versions of Windows 10:

If you are running any of these releases, I’d highly recommend updating your systems as soon as possible as there seem to be quite a lot of security-related fixes across the board.
    Hope this helps MrBill.
Christer, my understanding of an UPGRADE is from e.g. Vista to W7.
UPDATES I interpret as additional info for the OS version to keep up to date. i.e. Security Patches etc.
    I stand to be corrected.;)

The fact that we have differing understandings indicate that Microsoft have not been very clear on the distinctions.

For me, going from Vista to W7 is installing a new operating system, not an upgrade of Vista. I've never done it without formatting so I have to ask if the existing programs and personal data could be "transferred" from Vista to W7?

My LapTop came with W10 Home installed and it is currently at version 1903. There are two spots to view installed updates and the information differ. If we disregard all updates other than to Windows 10, the list gets reset when installing a new "feature update" (e.g. 1903). Compare my two screenshots with how it looks on your system.

Certainly seems a slow process - hopefully that should ensure minimum issues!

Not clear if the eventual upgrade will jump direct from 1803 to 1903 or force an intermediate stage with 1809.

    Alan,
My unit was running 1803. Yesterday I checked for updates and was told that 1903 was available whenever I was ready. I guess 1809 was rolled into the 1903 so I missed 1809. I pushed the button - it took 45 minutes or an hour and then I had to do a restart. All is well - so far.

Yes, the the latest Cumulative update generally contains the previous updates and will install the necessary patches to bring it up to speed.

Do a Restart. I've had this happen before and just a simple Restart fixes it.

Nothing fixed it. Had to download the ISO & install from it. Went off smoothly.
