    Hi all,

Since this week has been slow on WindowsBBS, maybe you have the time to check something for me. This is about Outlook, former Hotmail, not the Office program.

It's stated in the header that objects in the spam folder are removed after 30 days. This morning on february first, I have spam messages from "january", "december" and "earlier" (sorted under those labels). Obviously, "removed after 30 days" is not working on my system. If it were, there would be from "january" only.

I can't find a setting to change this but does anyone else have spam messages from "december" and "earlier"?

I very seldom use my account and my junk folder was empty.

If I were you, I'd empty the folder and then check it next month.

Did you google this? Seems like there are many articles about junk mail not working.

I signed up for Hotmail years ago, to be used as backup for my main mail account but I never told anyone about it. I only get these spam messages and the contents of the folder was cleared (manually by yours truly) at some point in time last year. Maybe it happened just before november 10 which is the date of the oldest spam message in the folder.

February first is a good day to clear the folder - I'll do as you suggest!

Well, the objects in the spam folder don't get removed automatically after 30 days. Since I maually cleared the folder on February first, three spam messages linger in the folder. The first (from 02-08) and the second (from 02-15) should have been removed but they're still there. Not a big deal but do they ever get removed automatically? Time will tell.

I did empty the folder on February 1st. The first spam message showed up a few days later and I will wait til the bitter end, hoping that it gets cleared at some point in time but it certainly isn't happening "after 30 days".

After over three months, they're all still there. Now, four spam messages (the first from February 8, the fourth from March 29) should all have been "emptied" but I doubt it will ever happen. Please, regard this as "rhetorical" because I don't think there's a cure other than a manual clearing!

I have a 'former' MSN email, but it's spam folder is working & deleting items after 30 days.

Only thing I could think of is to remove the account from Outlook, delete the .OST file (save a backup!) ad re-add the account to Outlook. Maybe that'll work.

I have no *.ost file since it is not on my local computer but web based. It's not a big deal because I only use it as a backup, should Gmail run into problems.

A sidenote in an old thread. Nothing has been automatically removed in over a year. There has been a change though - it now states that it will happen after 10 days ... ... not after 30 days!

I shall remove the spam messages manually to see if it fills up again.

(This is a rhetorical comment ... ;) ... just to lower my blood pressure!)
