Old Dell Opteplex 745 CPU upgrade..

    I got an old opteplex 745 and was wondering if any one could tell me what the best cpu is I can put into this thing with out upgrading any thing like power supply.. I already upgraded the ram to 8gb and put in a new SSD drive.. Thanks in advance for the help.. It has a intel core 2 duo s6600 in it witch was stock..

    sorry for the long delay.. that's what I was afraid of.. every time I open some thing on the pc my cpu goes up to 100 % brand new hard drive new ram and new operating system.. windows 10.. thanks for the help Arie..

    That CPU should be "ok", I have a Dell D820 with a T2700 Dual core (slower then yours). My Win10 works just fine. The trick is to let W10 boot up and "do it's thing". After 1 or 2 minutes it should be fine. After a fresh install it can take 30-60 minutes to 'stabilize'.

    the PC stays on most of the day and after a few hours if I open some thing even if its just a you tube video the cpu runs up to 100 % I have run virus scans malware scans all come up clean..

    Make sure cooling is adequate and fins/fans are clear of dust. You may need to open up that laptop for this...
