I just got a new desktop computer and installed SeaMonkey as my default browser and e-mail client, just as I have on my old desktop computer. I'm having trouble moving my Bookmarks file from the profile in the old Windows 7 computer to the profile in the new Windows 10 computer.

I'm using a thumbdrive as the transfer medium. The contents of the file appear to be OK on the thumbdrive, but they don't show up when I look for them in the browser on the new computer.

I did some on-line research about the transfer procedure, and I understand the basic drift of it, but somehow every attempt I make doesn't work. I think I know what to do, but Is there a specific sequence I need to use, and is a restart needed on the new computer at one or more points in the process? Evidently I'm missing a step.

Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

Hi BOBBO, have you tried this procedure? Seems easy to follow.
How to transfer bookmarks from one system to another? | Firefox Support Forum | Mozilla Support

Thanks for replying. I tried a number of similar procedures without success. The one your link leads to uses a lot of verbiage detailing how to get to the Profiles folder in each of the two computers. I already have that procedure down pat. It's what to do next that's giving me trouble.

My old profile has a Bookmarks file in it that contains what I need. It has a long file name that ends with a .jsonlz4 extension. It's what I copied to my thumb-drive last night and still have. That's what i would like to get to "take" in the new computer. But the instructions from your link talk about the folders in each of the two computers needing to have identical names. If I read it correctly, the "folders" are the profiles themselves, and of course they have very different names in the two computers. Those same instructions then talk about creating a new folder to accept the contents of the old folder. If I can possibly avoid it, I don't want to transfer the entire old profile folder -- I just want to transfer one file, the bookmarks file. I already have my old Address Book and persdict files transferred successfully. Can you recommend how to transfer just that one file, the bookmarks file?

Other sources I found last night mentioned deleting all bookmarks except for the latest one from the bookmarksbackup folder, and also deleting 3 files that are SQLITE files that are listed in the profile as "places.sqlite," with one of them having a -shm extension and the other having a -wal extension. Your link doesn't mention them, I suppose because yours is for transferring the entire profile folder rather than just the one (Bookmarks) file.

For me it isn't so "easy to follow." What should I do next?

    Thanks for replying again.

For some reason your link wouldn't open for me, so I copied and pasted it into an e-mail that I sent to myself after doing the "insert link" procedure. That made the link work, and I think it led to the right target. I'll check the instructions in it and see if they'll work for me.

    Thanks again.

I haven't been able to work on this issue since my last post because I tried to connect my printer with my new desktop and somehow my Registry got corrupted and I had to do a complete Reset. Now I'm busy getting everything back to where it was. This might be an opportunity for me to create an entire new profile and get SeaMonkey set up the way I want that way. I'll rejoin y'all when I can.
