A few days ago KB4011604 was released, superseeding KB4011276. On my LapTop running Windows 10 + Office 2007, it had installed automatically, twice, and I wondered why. When I got home, on my DeskTop, running Windows 7 + Office 2007, I was notified of two updates with the same KB-number. I ended up installing both the Swedish version and the English version. This must have something to do with language packs that are installed, normally taken care of by a "global (glb)" installation file. No matter what, good on Microsoft to extend the extended support ... :) ... !

It's just a one off patch like the one for XP. I don't think that MS is going to "extend the extended support".

Yeah, I think if an update affects a file that is shared through many versions, Microsoft pushes it out - as long as it does not take much or any unique modification (Read: expending a lot of resources). And I think that is good business sense.

Neither do I but the initial patch may have been flawed?

Perhaps, but "flawed" could mean many things from it breaks everything it touches to it failed to address a problem for a tiny few people under a very unique scenario - but only on the 6th Tuesday of every 3rd month! ;)

I moved from Office 2007 to 2013 and there were learning curves in the process similar to W7 to W10. I tried the free 2016 Office at the intro of W10 but it didn't seem that it warranted me making the move from 2013 Office. I can do all I want with the current Office 2013.

Edit year mistakes:oops: Another senior moment.o_O;)

So where are you? 2010 or 2013?

If I already had 2010 (or 2013), I would not have moved to 2016 when I did.

My complaint earlier about load times seems to be diminishing. I can only guess that Windows 10 is learning how I use these products and is adjusting the various prefetch routines accordingly. They still don't "pop open" but they are noticeably quicker than when I first installed them.

Yes, I occasionally have a flareup of my GCF too.

Umm... I forgot what GCF is.

Oh yeah. Geriatric Cranial Flatulence! ;)

Coinciding with the most recent updates (KB4011604) gremlins took control over Windows Update on my Windows 7 Pro 64-bit system. It has always received updates for Windows and other Microsoft software (or whatever it says). Suddenly it's Windows only that gets updates. The next day, the setting "notify but do nothing else" had been changed to "automatic". Setting it back to "notify but do nothing else" was no problem but nothing I tried would set it back to receiving updates for Windows and other Microsoft software.

Images of my system don't include the most recent version of the Windows Update Client (WUC) or Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE). Ever since the problems with Windows Update reigned, I like it that way. I restored the most recent image (November), installed WUC + MSE and in the past, that resulted in receiving updates for Windows and other Microsoft software ... o_O ... but no longer! I also tested an earler image (October) with the same disappointing result and no way to get it back to receiving updates for Windows and other Microsoft software.

I'm so disappointed by and fed up with Windows Update and just wish that they would leave it alone. It has worked well for several months ... ... why stick their fat fingers into it?

Before someone gives the lecture about "one in a million" ... :p ... please don't!

The gremlins are active but now they are of a benevolent breed. I started the computer this morning. Windows Update did nothing since it had been run late yesterday evening. Several updates (for Windows only) were listed, updates that I have not chosen to install.

Now, when I noticed that the icon in the "activity field" (at the bottom right of the screen) was gone, I started Windows Update from the task menu. I was greeted by a "red (warning) screen" saying that the latest search for updates was "never". I was prompted to do a search, which I did. When finished, it had brought back "receiving updates for Windows and other Microsoft software" and several updates for other Microsoft software were listed as well.

Phew ... ... WU is back to normal and I hope ... ... for the foreseeable future!

There have been reports of problems with Win7 updation as a file MSAUTH.CAB expired in first few days of December. Now an updated version has been released by MS & things should be normal soon.

I searched my system but found no instance of MSAUTH.CAB. Maybe it isn't stored locally but no matter what, it still seems to be working this morning ... ... fingers crossed!

Are Enterprise editions of Office 2007 exempt from the stated deadline?
