I am having trouble getting videos to play on cnn.com. It just does not play anything and shows that it is a .06 second video at the bottom of the video window. YouTube videos play just fine. Tried to download Opera browser, but had the same problem. Have emptied the cache and unchecked "enable hardware acceleration" as suggested on the internet. Nothing has helped. Another suggestion was to download a new driver, but which one am I looking for? Can anyone suggest a solution? My husband is annoyed that he can no longer view these. Please help.

If you're using any ad blocker software try pausing it and refreshing the page.

Ephemarial, thanks a lot! I had tried to shut off the ad blocker before, but I did not close out of cnn.com and relaunch it with Firefox. It works, but we will have to contend with the ads before watching each video. I had Ad Muncher enabled, but must not be able to use it on this website. Hope this helps others that use Firefox as well. It does not work for Chrome, however. I had Ad Block Plus on that one and also Ad Muncher was working as well. I disabled ABP and the Ad Muncher was still disabled, we can get the audio, but not video to work. Would like to know if there is an ad blocker that will work and still be able to watch the news videos for either browser. Any help will be appreciated.

Also have tried Ad Block Plus and Ad Block which seemed to work better but occasionally videos would 'hang'.
Try Ghostery for firefox - haven't tried it with Chrome.

Mary, if you are having difficulty playing videos on All browsers, as the thread title indicates, then the problem very likely does not lie with an adblocker but with something else. I use AdBlockPlus on Firefox, Opera, Edge, Vivaldi and all CNN videos I tried played just fine. I don't use IE often but have AdBlockPlus on it and I tried it also and even though I received a message saying the browser did not support videos, it did play just fine. So your problem lies with something else other than AdBlockerPlus. The new driver you mentioned would likely be the one for your Display Adapter which you should get through either your computer mfgrs website or the mfgr of the Display Adapter installed on your computer. You can find out the Display Adapter mfgr by going to the Device Manager and then opening the Display Adapter Properties. The driver version will be shown there. Then go to the mfgr's web site and see if there is a new driver available. These are free.

Thank you all for your help! I have downloaded the K-lite Codec Pack and installed it on the computer that was having the problem. I tried the cnn.com videos after that, but they didn't work. Then I installed Ghostery on Firefox and the videos started working even with the Ad Blockers in place. I got Ghostery for Chrome, but all I can get is the audio on them, no picture. I will take jholland's advice and see if I can download a new display adapter from the manufacturer's website. Perhaps that will fix the Chrome problem. Is it advisable to update to the Codec Pack for all computers?

Funny that installation of Ghostery would start play of videos. It's, in fact, designed for just the opposite - to block audio/videos.

jholland, I followed the instructions, went to Intel, they scanned the computer, and said that I had the latest driver already installed. rsinfo, I don't know why, but the videos will run with Ghostery in place with Firefox. Still cannot get the videos to run in Chrome except for the audio portion. I really appreciate all of the suggestions. So if anyone else has some things for me to try, let me know.

Since no update was available then try this. Go to Device Manager and Uninstall the Display Adapter. Then shut down the computer, reboot and allow the computer to find the adapter and reinstall it. Very often this corrects the problem.

That is not what Ghostery is designed to do. It is a privacy tool, not a tool to block videos that are supposed to be on the page.
