Mozilla Firefox version 54.0.1 keeps losing my history, bookmarks and data from some of my extensions. I do not wish to update to a newer version of Firefox as that will not run some extensions I use and loses data for other extensions. I can backup with Mozbakup and then restore that version. This works sometimes, but when close Firefox and reopen it, my history, bookmarks and data for one extension is gone completly erased. I cannot figure out what is doing this. I then restore with Mozbakup and that works till next day when i run Firefox or close and reopen Firefox the same day.. Any suggestions. Windows 7

Have you asked this question in Firefox HELP?

Thank you. Will let you know if I do or do not find anything there.

The problem is likely CAUSED by one of your extensions. Disable all of them. The enable one at a time until the "data and bookmark" loss occurs again. Then you'll know which one is the culprit.

    Then the problem is probably
    with syncing, turn it OFF.

Syncing was never on. I still have no idea why it happens, but not all the time. I just keep backing it up everyday and sometimes have to go back to the backup and sometimes it loads properly. Something somewhere is causing this, possibly something on my system but have not installed anything new for quite a while other then Windows necessary security updates. I do not have auto updates for anything. I really have no clue.

Today - I opened Firefoz after initial startup - everything was there just fine. later my internet went down. I closed up everything and did a restart. Then I opened Firefox and not the good version. Restored yesterday's version and everythingn back to normal for yesterday's history etc. I turn my pc off every night.

In general you are correct that I should update. Problem is, if I update, I lose some of the features I regularly use. Especially since it does not appear to be any of the extensions causing the problem. It also just bothers me that there is something doing this and I can't figure out what. It poses a challenge to me. Before I retired, I was a software engineer and had to try to figure out what was wrong when things did not correctly work.

Some file(s) in your profile may be corrupted.
Export your bookmarks, delete all the mozilla directories in <username>/appdata/local, <username>/appdata/locallow & <username>/appdata/roaming. Launch firefox and setup your new profile. Install your extensions. If no problems, fine. If get problems then ditch the old version and the old extensions.

Here is the sequence of events which caused my problem. I now am back to having Firefox work the way I want it to.

I installed Firefox Quantum. It did not let me do some of the things the way I am used to . So, I uninstalled it and reinstalled Firefox version 54.0.1.
Problems began after reinstall of older version.

Using a program called MozBakup, I have been able to sometimes recreate all extensions , history and Bookmarks. But this did not always work. I would always attempt to restore everything from the saved backup file.

The other day I used MozBakup to restore only the history, bookmarks, extenstions and what it labels as unknowns. That apparently reset what ever had been left over from the Quantum update/uninstall and then reinstall of older version.

Until I did just the partial restore, all my problems kept occurring. There must have been something set that was leftover from the updated Quantum version that my partial restore finally got rid of.

I thank everyone for your suggestions and will be closing this posting.

    Jorjab
