There seems to be a widespread issue with trying to install the latest update, above, for the Anniversary edition. KB4022715 fails to install despite multiple attempts and repeated use of the troubleshooting tool.

There seem to be a lot of reports around the web but no definitive, (or any) solution.

Any of you guys on here have any ideas?

If this update fails to install presumably it will inhibit the Creators update which should be landing here soon. Is this correct, or should I sit back and wait?

Since the previous version ends up in a folder named "WindowsOld" (or something like that) and subsequently gets deleted after a month or so (no longer possible to roll back) indicates that the new version is a fresh installation but with your personal programs and files "transferred". My conclusion is that Windows 10 does not need to be fully updated to upgrade to the new version.

To support my conclusion #1: When my LapTop was new, I created an Image (I know ... ... I am a chicken) prior to doing anything else. Next, I proceeded to install the most recent upgrade (version) without updating anything in advance. It worked well, no flames, no tsunamis!

To support my conclusion #2: Further upgrades to new versions have cleared the update history. This indicates that all previous updates a included in the upgrade.

I forgot to mention that you don't have to wait. I always do the upgrades offline. To do that, you need to download the MediaCreationTool and run it to create the USB-media in advance:

    Create Windows 10 installation media

When done, run setup from the created USB-media and be careful to "keep personal files and programs).

Well, not any update released after the upgrade in question and in the case of the Creators Upgrade, it should include updates up to March 2017 since it was released in April 2017.

Thanks for your response. The release of the Creators update seems very inconsistent. On my desktop it was installed a month or so ago. On one laptop I now have the banner advising me that it "is on its way", and on another laptop, the one which can't install KB4022715, there is no mention at all.

I suspect that the easiest strategy may be to sit back and wait. If I simply ignore the failed installation(s) the issue should, as you intimated, resolve itself as and when the Creators update finally lands on that computer. In the meantime, though, given that there seems to be many complaints on the web as well as on Microsoft, perhaps they will re-engineer the update and release it as soon as it has been fixed. (Yep, I'm an optimist!)

Why not try the newer version with update KB4022725. I have this installed on this comp and my HP Notebook.
    Microsoft Update Catalog
