Couple of Issues Related to Network Drives

When I got this laptop back in 2013 it had Windows 8 Home 64-bit on it. I tried to learn it but had to restore it to factory when I woke up to an automatic install of Windows 8.1 on two separate occassions. I read a bit online and found this was a precursor to forcing Windows 10 so I bought Windows 7 Pro and haven't looked back.

Of course this means I've got some new issues that I didn't experience with Windows 8.

There are two specific ones that I would love to either solve or find a work around; Both of which I'm sure are related as they involve my network drives (and it seems an issue with Windows 7):

#1 In explorer (also in CubicExplorer Portable and Explorer++ and in Voidtools Everything) (I like to use 32 bit windows due to having many 32 bit shell extensions) while viewing an external drive after a few minutes of glee and enjoyment eventually upon right-click, the window(s) and/or program(s) hang/freeze/crash (not necessarily in that order but at least one or another happens).

#2 Whenever Windows is restarted I always get this message about 'Could not reconnect network drives'

Win 8 is a predecessor of Win 10 & yes Microsoft tried its best to move people to Win 10 but you were not forced. It was just pain in a-s-s kind of situation.

Are you using Win 7 32 bit or 64 bit ?

The crash can be due to a misbehaving shell extension. To find out which one, the only way is to, remove all the extensions & then reinstall one by one to see which one crashes.

Have you mapped a network drive? This message just means that Windows is trying to reconnect to mapped drive & cannot find it.

 

Yes I have mapped it every time as it seems to be the only way to get it back

 

What network resource are you mapping? Is it a NAS or a network computer drive ?

 

I have a WD MyNet N900 Dual Band Router with a 3TB WD MyBook Essential and a 5TB Samsung D3 Station.Everything is wired. I do have a wireless network used mainly for my Roku & my mom and my brother live next door and they connect to it.

 

Out of all these, which ones have you mapped ?

 

I've mapped both of them. I've got the D3 Partitioned as 2 drives so I have 3 drives mapped.

This particular router doesn't has separate IP for the external USB drives. It exports them as shares which are accessed by \\routername\External_Drive_folder-name.

Are you sure that you are mapping the drives correctly ?

 

Well, no wonder I couldn't find the ip's. It's possible I do not have them mapped correctly.
