Nope, I haven't dumped Norton yet.

I tend to take time to understand what I'm about to do, think things through - procrastinate, some might say - and then act.

    Hi there and Happy Sunday!

    It's official - I'm an a$$ and dumb as a stone!

The mystery banner is the icon for HP's Simple Pass, a password storage and retrieval app, which apparently came with my system. What kicked it on, two weeks ago, is beyond my comprehension. Apparently, so much is beyond my comprehension that I am truly ashamed for wasting all your time as I've done.

I'd say it was a learning experience but the only thing I learned is to pay more attention to what I'm seeing.

When I went into Revo Uninstaller Pro today to remove LogMeIn - given the color scheme of the banner matches theirs - I saw the icon at the left of the banner, along with the name of the program! I've attached a screen shot from Revo. Now I need only try to remember what PW I used when I first set it up, 15 months ago when I bought this PC. If, that is, I actually did use it. Having Norton's Identity Safe for so long, I've never had the need for an alternative app.

I do apologize for causing you folks to try and assist me for so long, only to find the answer myself. It's actually a similar reason the Microsoft invited me to beta test, back in 1993, but the problem was a bit more real; this apparently was only a problem with my ability to observe what is in front of me.:(

    I am truly embarrassed.

Again, my thanks to you all and my wishes for a Health and Satisfying Thanksgiving!

    Best to you all,
    -a.

It is only a waste of time if nothing is learned. We all learned something here so that's a good thing. Actually, it was more your time wasted than anyone else's. We were here because we wanted to be here at the time we decided to be here - not because we had something more important to attend to but were forced to be here instead.

    Hi Bill,

I learned a long time ago to always thank people who help me and to own up to issues that I've caused, in whatever way. I've also learned that there are so many people who know much more than I do, and to try and find those people when I need help.

My foolish feelings are caused by the fact that at one time or another, during the search for a reason why that banner existed, I had removed things using Revo and never once saw it right in front of my nose. I practically have teeth marks where it bit me on the ... arm.

And so, again I thank you all for your help and your time, but mostly for your patience.

Best wishes for Bountiful Thanksgiving to all!

    Alex Howard

PS - I've uploaded a JPG of me, searching for an answer for that problem:rolleyes:

Thanks for letting us know. The main thing is you figured out what program was responsible for that banner add-on and if we helped you solve the problem then it wasn't a waste of time. You got the issue resolved and that's what matters in the end.

That's always the case. IT is many industries within industries. But not only that, those industries are constantly evolving and advancing, with many dying off at same time. Nobody can know it all.

Meanwhile, how do I change an "inactive" to "resolved? "

Which is fine. But he learned nothing on how to do it. Teach by instructions/example. :p

Evan, you know I am not being mean or rude here. Please don't take it that way.

Okay guys, I also know you're not being snarky. The thing is that here, it was easy to find that line in green text, click it to mark resolved, and done.

At no time did my posting here, or the resultant thread, indicate it was "inactive." That's one reason I am a bit puzzled and also there is no apparent way to mark it resolved, or Active and then resolved. And yes, I did spend some time on the help system and failed, miserably, to find my answer.

So teach by example; that's fine with me. But I don't want to tick anyone off by leaving it unresolved as whether it has indeed been resolved. [From the Department of Redundancy Department ...]

Alex - Threads in the Malware forum can only be marked as Active, Inactive or Resolved by Broni.
