I have 2 laptops that were upgraded to WIN 10. Both are having issues with speed, one worse than the other. On the first laptop, a HP G60 , I decided to try a clean install. I copied all my private files , made an installation media as per microsoft web page, formatted the hd and reinstalled win 10. It booted up and ran ok. I reloaded my files to desktop. The computer is very slow reading photo folders, the new Microsoft edge runs slow, and then exits by itself all the time. in task manager service host : local system ( network restricted ) 9 runs up to 50 % of cpu, but averages 33 %. Basically it's unusable in it's current state. Any help will be appreciated with this issue.

    Hi GRAHAM WESTON.

Lets see what is starting up with your machine.

Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by right clicking on it and selecting Run as administrator. When you open the program, click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries on the Logon Tab in your next reply.

Then lets make sure there is no corruption in the file system.

Click Start< type Command Prompt in the Start search box, right click on Command Prompt and click on Run as administrator. After the Command Prompt window opens, type chkdsk C: /r and hit enter. Type Y to confirm that you want to schedule a Check Disk to run on the next restart. After the Check Disk has been scheduled, close the Command Prompt window and reboot the computer to allow Check Disk to run.

In Autoruns remove the following items:

    Synaptics TouchPad enhancements
    Microsoft OneDrive
    The items highlighted in yellow
    Google Chrome
    Windows Mail (both entries)

Evan - I followed your suggestions above to the letter. My desktop has been scanning and repairing for over four hours. What is the problem, if you can see what it would be.

Never mind. It took about 6.5 hours, but the task is complete.

Actually it seems to be about the same. Not enough of a difference to measure.

No, that will be it for now. Just let me know how the machine is running over the next couple of days and then we will go from there.

In Autoruns remove all the entries except for Avast Antivirus and then reboot the machine.
