Resolved Getting Error 0x8024402F on Update

I am trying to update my Laptop. On running Windows Update, I am getting error
0x8024402.

I searched the net for the resolution and the most common remedy was switching on/off "Give me Updates for other Microsoft products when I update Windows ". I have tried that but I am still getting this error. Any ideas ?

I used Marc Liron back in W98 and XP days and found quite good tips from his Forum. Neil.

 

Most of the workarounds are not applicable in my case. I am not behind ISA server or on VPN.

Checked the proxy settings in IE. Still not working.

 

The error was on my part.

I had blocked all url's containing "ad. " on my firewall to get rid of the ads. This blocked all urls containing this phrase including the Windows update servers. Now I have removed it and everything is fine

 

Whoops! You'll need a little book like me to record changes you make because we've learned so much during our lifetime, we haven't any RAM left. Neil.

 

And we don't have the option of RAM upgrade
