New Dell XPS desktop - came with Windows 10 Home 64bit. I am using IE 11 as my default browser. Having resolved a problem I listed earlier with the help of board participants, I have another. I get the message "Internet Explorer has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close and notify you if a solution is available." This is accompanied with a box "Close Program ". Occasionally, Windows does not close and there is never a solution offered. The screen freezes and I have to reboot. More frequently, If I click on the "...has stopped working notice" the notice goes away and the screen becomes active. Other times when I click on the "has stopped working notice "--it goes away but the "Close Program box remains and when I click the "Close Program" box--that goes away and the screen becomes active. I'm about ready to jump out the window. (It's on the first floor). It's frustrating having invested so much money in this desktop unit. I tried Firefox on my previous computer and went back to IE. I would like not to but may have to try it again. Would like an opinion from those who might offer---Is IE a lost cause concerning compatibility with Win 10? Or is it possible something is not configured properly? Could malware cause a problems such as I have described? I hope Microsoft adapts their new "Edge" so it runs with add-ons soon. Thanks in advance for any help.

You should not have to reboot. Instead, open Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt Del) and kill IE.

I too am a fan of IE and I sure hope Microsoft is not introducing bugs in IE to push users to Edge. Edge is a good browser, but is still too immature, IMO. I don't like FF because if you follow security issues via the Department of Homeland Security's US-CERT Cyber Security Bulletin Vulnerability Summaries, you will see that FF continues to have more newly discovered vulnerabilities than all other browsers. :( If you like FF, I recommend you check out Pale Moon.

Back to IE - note that most problems with browsers, including IE is due to misbehaving add-ons. So you might try running without add-ons, or just resetting IE and see if that helps.

Thank you for your response. I am late getting back here because of being busy and then last Wednesday the 12th of Oct I got 3 auto updates from Microsoft for Windows 10. Things went from bad with the IE11 problem to worse. I have since learned that they are "Anniversary" updates and they added to my woes in that 2/3 of my desktop icons disappeared, all my task bar icons disappeared except task view, Edge, and File Explorer. All my files were gone except those that were on the computer when I got it in July. Dell XPS 8900 Desktop. Incredimail email program which I have been using for years, Re-Mind Me Reminder program, Serene Screen Screen savers I've been using for years and more---all GONE. I posted this drama in Windows 10 section and am heading there now to post an update. At this point I don't know how things are going to work out with IE 11 but I don't have warm and fuzzy feelings after talking to a tech at Micro Center who works at their "Knowledge Desk ". I am going to mark this thread as solved and will be back with more after I try the resolution of my "disappearing" programs. If you are interested you can find the latest info I have in the Windows section under my name. Thank again for your effort to help.
