Go to Settings > System > About - the version will be shown there. Anniversary update is 1607.

It will take some days/weeks before you are offered it via Windows Update - if you want it now follow Arie's instructions in post #1

On my laptop with 64-bit Windows 10 Home since new, the upgrade had not turned up in Windows Update (nothing had been downloaded) and when running "setup.exe" on the UFD created by the Media Creation Tool, I told it to NOT get any updates and disconnected from the internet. It took 45-50 minutes from start to finish and everything works well.

I'm pleasantly surprised that no useless apps were showed up my system and that all my settings seem to be untouched. I have yet to browse a bit more and also to connect to the internet, letting Windows Update loose but this far, nothing is alarming.

Fast Startup had been reenabled. Important for people using Imaging Software to disable to avoid disc corruption.

Upgraded one of my desktop after struggling to download the ISO from Microsoft for 3 days. The MediaCreationTool somehow always stalled at around 60%. Still don't have any idea why would MS not provide resume feature in the tool or direct download url .

Had to use Download Microsoft Windows ISO Download Tool - MajorGeeks

Spoiler alert ! Some of your peripherals may stop working after upgrading. My Samsung laser printer just gave up the ghost without any indication from Windows.

A driver update from Windows Update and a reboot later it worked but I would have liked some error message.

From the FAQ sent out by MS over 12 months ago. Drivers, drivers, drivers. Peripheral/Software manufacturers tardiness.

Well, there are a few apps that returned, got updated and reinstalled or are new (don't remember) but not that many. Some can be uninstalled but others can't. When the laptop was new, I updgraded to version 1511 and used the PowerShell to get rid of all the bundled apps. I don't know if that still works but I'm not annoyed enough to test right now. Maybe I'll get to that point ... :D ... !

My version is quoted as 1511 and MS has installed several updates since upgrading to Win 10 from Win 7. Not 1607 among installed. Is there a queue for 1607 to be downloaded/installed?

I believe Microsoft will be rolling out the 1607 build in waves so Windows 10 users will be getting the update at different times. A lot of users are reporting their computers are freezing and failing to function at all though so be warned, Windows 10 fully freezes after anniversary update.

When 1607 gets installed, it will be a "new" installation but keeping your programs and files. The previous updates to 1511 will disappear into history. Updates to programs, e.g. Office, will still be there.

After the anniversary update my machine fails to boot into the OS. It get stuck on a black screen with a spinning circle of dots. Took the Win 10 drive out and put the win 7 ult. back in. So much for the free upgrade.

Today computer simply stopped and required a "Recovery Session ", worst to come, all non-Windows 10 software where removed in block, requiring a major job in re-installing everyone. One good thing iPlayer has now been reinstated. Surely there is a law against Microsoft invading one's computer, simply changing the workings with out warning, certainly with out permission. There are millions using their OS, does it also mean MS own our computers?
