I went back to the Windows 7 Start Menu by following the instructions on this site. I went to the next one I wanted, to go right to the desktop, in stead of having the start up screen (can't remember if that's the name for it).

I tried the regedit, but I don't have the "/personalazation" when I got there. I downloaded the "DisablelockScreenzip" but get an error, "Can not import...."

Anything else I can try to have it go to the desktop?

    Thank you,
    Chris.

Hi Chris. Are you trying to disable the lock screen in Windows 10 or install a 3rd party Start Menu?

If you are trying to disable the lock screen, you need to download this zip file and save it to your desktop. Then after the download completes, you need to extract the contents of the zipped folder and then double click on the Disable lock screen registry file and click on Yes to import the data into the registry. When that's done simply reboot the computer and the lock screen will no longer be present on boot up.

    Thank you for the reply.

I followed the instructions on this page. It did not work, so I posted the question here. You answered by posting the instructions I used when it did not work. So guess what? It still doesn't work.

    Thank you very much,
    Chris.

Did You try to create the key manually First create a restore point. Run\regedit\HLEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows. Right click on Windows select new Key name it Personalization In the right pane right click Create a DWORD (32-bit) Value key and Name it NoLockScreen Right click on it Modify and change the Value to 1. Exit the registry. Restart your machine.

I will try this to see if it works and post back. I missed this part. "If you do not see the Personalization key, right-click the Windows key above it, point to New, and create a key named Personalization. "
Should of read it more carefully. Sorry.

(When I came back, the Windows 7 start menu is gone, so even that didn't stay).

    Thank you for the help,

    Chris.

I just did a clean install of Windows 10. I went to install start 8 start 10. When I went to run it, the only choice I get is to pay or a 30 day free trial. I guess I'll have to use classic shell.

    Thank you,
    Chris.
