    Hi

I upgraded to Windows 10, from 7, a few months back. Everything was running fine until one day the start and search buttons stopped working properly. When I click, the start menu or search window does not open.
I am not able to pin the change in behavior to any specific action. Right-Click brings up some other menus.
I have tried the following, to no avail
    - sfc /scannow
    - Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Hi fkaramagi. I would first try Performing a clean boot in Windows and see if that helps.

If your Start Menu is still not working then see if creating a new user account brings the Start Menu back.

Does Restart Windows Explorer in Task Manager help for this problem? Neil.

Window clean boot has not worked.
Restarting in Windows Explorer in Task Manager did not resolve the problem either!!
I guess I will have to create another account.
[* This is just for information, I will repost in correct forum - I copied MS Outlook pst file to the new profile - but I am now being prompted for a password!]
    Thank you all.

Thought I would chime in. Have a friend with this problem and the following from Retired Learner fixed it.
Will report back if the fix wasn't permanent.

Creating a new user profile works. Except am still maintaining both profiles because of the MS Outlook problem given above.

Am sorry for resurrecting this but I thought I should share.
I have been using 2 profiles because I could not access Outlook in the new profile. I was always prompted for the pst file password which I did not have.
For some reason I am yet to establish, yesterday the old profile started working ok. Start menu pops up normally! Am not sure what I did. The only new thing I have done in the recent past is to install e-scan - that was a week ago. I was using Malwarebytes and Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 before.
I will move my files back to the old profile over the weekend.

Hi Frederick, FWIW - DON'T run more than ONE Anti-virus system at any time as you will have possible problems! Just make sure Defender is switched OFF by Default. ;) Neil.
