When system tries to run a system restore each day I get an Error and the result code is 2147942403? Currently the only restore point available is one that I created today manually. All of my earlier restore points are missing and I have plenty of space for them. I cannot seem to find out what the error means and what to do about it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

18.29 GBs. All my settings seem to be ok and enabled. Set for daily at 1PM, but the task starts in task scheduler and it fails with the error I mentioned.

    Hi Marv6,
How much have you set on the sliding scale to handle your Restore Points? Neil.

Arie, does this also apply to win 8.1? and thanks for the link. On the sliding scale it is set for 2%, retired learner.

Hard to say about the 2%. 2% of a 100GB would not be enough, but 2% of a terabyte would probably be enough.

retiredlearner, the problem is not with the system restore itself. It is with creating the restore points thru task scheduler.

It was worth a try as the update fixes 78 problems including Restore points. Neil.

Thanks for your help, retiredlearner. I will download the kb you mentioned and see what happens! I checked the task scheduler settings with my vista computer and they are basically the same as the 8.1 computer. Creating the restore points and restore works just fine on my vista computer and I have had to use restore several times, usually after windows updates. Right now I get message from microsoft that login won't work, try later to get the kb download.

Does the restore point have to or need to be created at 1:00PM. Your have limited information listed in your System Specifications. If you are having trouble finding you systems configuration. Download Speccy

lj50, no actually I have changed to 12:00AM and it has all of the settings that my windows Vista computer has for task scheduler, which works just fine. will check out your link. Retiredlearner, I clicked the link you gave me, got to microsoft, but, when I tried to download the KB file got message that I could not sign in, try later, which I did several times, yet, I can directly sign to my microsoft account and download other KB files? Strange. I did notice that task scheduler for 8.1 has Start a program %windir%\system32\srtasks.exe ExecuteScheduledSPPCreation, while my vista computer task scheduler start a program has %windir%\system32\rundll32.exe/d srrstr.dll, Execute ScheduledSPPCreation. This is the only difference. What is strange is that I can manually create restore points and there are other tasks in task scheduler that work ok.

Still looking for a solution to the problem! thanks! The problem is not with system restore, itself. the problem is with the task scheduler running requested system restore points. I can create a manual system restore point, I just cannot get the task scheduler to do it for me on a recurring basis. It is set up to run on a schedule, but it does not run at all.

Thanks, Evan. I can create the restore points manually. Whether they work or not is another subject. My problem is in task scheduler where I have it set up to run automatically, which it fails to do. When I get win updates I never see creating restore point before downloading and installing windows updates and there is no restore point created in system restore, except for the ones that I manually create. I will read the info you sent me and see if anything gives me a clue to the problem.
