The other day I left my computer and when I came back it was off. After restarting there were no messages in Thunderbird. I see that there is a crash report in my profiles folder and that information is there. How do I get it back in Thunderbird. I have a Windows 8 desktop.

Have you tried TB in Safe Mode? Open TB > Menu > Help > Start with Add-ons Disabled.
From there you can check individual Add-ons to see if it has caused the crash. Neil.

Thunderbird did not crash, the computer shut off unexpectedly.

Chances are the TB profile got corrupted and TB may have auto-created a new profile, or can only load certain parts of the existing profile.

Your messages will still be there in the original profile directory.

    rusty2,

I have been using MozBackup to back up my Thunderbird and Firefox applications for several years and it works very well. I had to use it to restore from a crash one time and I have also used it to transfer accounts from one computer to another. I run it on a weekly basis and back it up to an external hard drive so at most I might lose one week of e-mail should things go wrong.

It's not a Mozilla product so it's in the freeware category. In fact, since I started analyzing my usage of it, I think it's time I sent a donation. Here's a link http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/
