Don't know how to save these updates to file, as they just install themselves, and when Microsoft quits XP, this info might disappear.

Have XP Pro with SP 3 installed, but have not loaded all the updates, and want to download all the updates since SP 3, and save them to file or disk, then I can do a full re-install sometime later, and have all the info saved to my computer for future reference.

Will have to go to Win 7 but still want to keep XP Pro on this machine.

    Thanks again,
    Rob

Windows XP users will be able to get previously released updates via Windows Update and new virus definitions for Microsoft Security Essentials. They will also be able to reactivate XP if they need to do a reinstall.

Thank you for the info. Not that familiar with the ISO functions, but still learning. I have the original CD's of XP Pro, but what is on the machine is somewhat corrupted and needs to be replaced with a fresh start. Any shorter ways of fixing this?
    Thank you again,
    Rob

I would say that it depends on your starting point, i.e. the Service Pack level of your installation CD - SP3 was released in 2008 I believe and contains all updates to the original XP up to that point in time.

But as has been posted above these updates are available, for how long I do not know, through Windows update (for direct installation).

Imaging a fresh & updated install of XP would be the way to go IMO.

No - I was suggesting that you deal with your current installation or make a fresh installation with all the updates and THEN image the drive for future use .....

Downloaded the Security Updates and saved them to file. Not familiar with the procedure of installing the image. XP Pro with SP 3 is currently installed, but it needs a fresh version of the OS followed by the updates. Where do I find this information ?
    Thank you again,
    Rob

Here is a general article covering the various ways of extracting files from an ISO image ....

How to extract the contents from an .ISO file without burning the .ISO to disc.
First question is - what original installation media do you have? Do you in fact have an original installation CD and if so at what Service Pack level - SP1, 2 or 3??

If not does the computer have a Recovery partition from which you can restore it to factory condition?
