Remember how you could press WinKey + u + s, h, r, u to put XP to sleep, hibernate, restart, or shutdown? I have been trying to accomplish the same thing with Windows 7, but the listed key combinations don't work.

Is there a way to fix this?

    shutdown:
Windows Key (press & release) > Right Arrow > Enter

    re-start:
Windows Key (press & release) > Right Arrow twice > Up Arrow > Enter

Why not create a short cut for shutdown and restart? Right click and empty space on the desktop\New\Shortcut. Shutdown: In the location line, type shutdown -s -t 0(this is a zero and not an oh) Name it Shutdown then choose an icon click apply and ok. Then pin it to the Taskbar. Restart: shutdown -r -t 0 name it Restart choose an icon then pin it to the taskbar. It's a lot easier to click once on the taskbar icon then it is using a keyboard shortcut.

Well, call me lazy, but I was hoping for less keyboard intervention - although the shutdown sequence is OK, but I rarely shut my computer down.

I found a way to make a shortcut to log off with (shutdown -f), and I have it pinned to the taskbar. I mainly do restarts, sleep, and hibernation, but that would mean creating a taskbar shortcut for each command. Not a bad idea, but sounds confusing.

    You're welcome, elcajongunsfan. ;)

Does anyone know of a shortcut command to log off my user account and put Windows 7 to sleep at the same time?

Thanks, Neil, but I didn't see anything related to power options.

Here's a way to make to a sleep shortcut...

The second method doesn't work unless you disable hibernation - which I can't do because my UPS needs hibernation enabled in case of power failure.

The first option works with or without hibernation enabled.

Close, but no cigar. Still looking for a log off / sleep shortcut. Maybe there ain't no such animal. :(

What about the second shortcut for restart: shutdown -r -t 0. rename it Restart click on change Icon then pick out an icon. Click Apply and Ok.

That's a neat shortcut for restarting Windows, lj. I noticed that you can add seconds to the end of the command to create a delayed restart.

Sorry I forgot to mention delaying restart. Got to find that tea that helps you remember things. Forgot where I put it.

I can't get anything to work like I want to (logoff/sleep), so I guess I have to settle for the old fashioned way of doing things.

I have those shortcuts, lj, but I was unable to create a combined, logoff / sleep shortcut.

Sorry James I must have misread the post. Or was confused(which isn't that hard to do with me).
