After 3 years of using my beloved Toshiba laptop, this time, something wrong has come out of it.

When I do normal tasks like surfing the Internet, the computer goes smoothly. However when I play games like Dota 2, it will start to lag and this causes unsmooth and unpleasant gaming experience. This never happen 2 years before even though I played resources-eating games.

It starts crashing oftenly. Sometimes it will just shut down without BSODs, just like the power supply suddenly got plugged off and the screen goes black.

Today, it has crashed unexpectedly. 2 times in a day. The 2nd time is more fatal- almost results in unbootable computer.

2 main suspects: Overheating or computer viruses

    Any help is appreciated.

Hi scgoh123, I would suggest a clean reinstall of Windows7.

    Have you done regular maintenance?

ie. Defragged - cleared Temp Files - uninstalled Software not used - Updated Drivers - cleared cooling vents etc.? Neil.

OMG IS IT SO SERIOUS UNTIL DESTRUCTIVE RE-INSTALLATION MUST BE USED?

Yes, I did this once every three months. Defragmentation shows my HDD 0% fragmented

Have a look at the options here: Installing and reinstalling Windows

Have you backed up and made a Recovery Disk?

Another choice might be to un-install the game and do a fresh install of the game. It sounds like something is corrupted. Neil.

Okay I got my laptop screen replaced. RM350 (approx US$100)!!! very expensive!! But the problem still persists. The computer will still shut down suddenly not only when I played those 'resource-eating games' like Dota 2, but also normal games like Maplestory!! It has already like this three times in a day like power source suddenly got plugged off while the AC Adapter still plugged on. And I heard 'pop' sound every time this thing happen. And there's is no BSOD code appeared (if has, it will pop up blue screen for around 30 seconds then restart). Should I suspect power supply overheating or HDD? I can confirm this is not game's fault. :(

UPDATE: I am using Safe Mode to post this, I am letting it to run Safe Mode for 1 hour and see the problem still exists or not. :)

Did the Repair Shop make any comment about the Power connector to motherboard connections? These are the most vulnerable parts and often give faults.
When you say the problem still exists - has the new screen cured your display faults shown in your Post #5? Neil.

When your Laptop shuts down - does it Restart immediately?
    How old is the battery?
Does it shut when running on battery only?
Does it shut down when running with AC power connected?
You may be faced with a bad connection on the motherboard. Neilo.

When you told me about battery, i tried to plug out the battery and solely depends on ac adapter. No issues happened when battery is not plugged into the computer!! :D

Maybe the main culprit is ---- The battery?

Well if your laptop operates without problems when running on AC power only - you've got the answer.
Buy a new battery and see if it works OK. You will have to follow the procedure to charge the battery correctly and make sure to Reset the power indicator operation.
Google for instructions on how to do it - unless your Toshiba owners Manual has the instruction. Neil.

I think battery causes the issue to happen. I think I will stick to using AC adapter without using batteries

Thanks for your assistance and I will mark this thread as 'Resolved'
