"In five years, Microsoft's share of personal computing fell from 90 to 33%" - http://appleinsider.com/articles/13...are-of-personal-computing-fell-from-90-to-33-

Like many other people, I gradually changed all my home computers from Windows to Mac, and each member of my family owns some iPod touch, iPad, iPhone, Macbook Air and Macbook Pro, (but not iMac). It has been three years ago I completed migration and replacement of generations. Microsoft was not listening to my voice.

Are you the remaining 33%? Will Windows one day face the same destiny of CP/M and extinct? How can Windows fight back? How Windows experts survive today and tomorrow and transform themselves into experts of the next generation of computing, beyond Windows 8/8.1? What next beyond Mac OS X Mavericks?

I think you mean Apple Juice;)

While anything is possible, the odds of Microsoft rolling over and dieing are slim to none.

Microsoft is late but may not be too late, if it can give a comprehensive and fully compatible Office System for Mac within 2014. What I meant is inclusion of Internet Explorer, Microsoft Project, Visio and all available software and not just file-level compatible, but more important is the user experience. Now, while working on Microsoft Office for Mac, I work like a moron so it's a big incentive to switch to Office-substitute software.

I have switched half-way to Evernote, Pages and Scrivener rather than tolerate myself on Words. I also stay with Word 2007 after trying 2012 and Microsoft Word in Office 360.

If I don't use iOS devices, I may not switch to Android and definitely not interested to consider Windows phone or Blackberry. Well, a Jolla phone may be more interesting.

Likewise, if I am not using OS X, I'm not looking back on Windows. I may go for Ubuntu, or even Raspberry Pi, or Arduino.

One more thing: Microsoft should recognise the threat from OS X Server. If not, Microsoft will be told by it's server users at any time.

The first incentive to switch over to Mac years ago had been the banners design of Microsoft Office. It rendered people's investment in training time and cost to nothing and lowered productivities without real added value whenever an upgrade of Windows and Microsoft Office. Very frustrating. Thus, the switch-over effort from Windows-based PC to a Mac is no more a worse hurdle than an upgrade on Windows and Microsoft Office on a PC. In face, it's a joyful experience full of surprises beyond expectation.

If Microsoft has no more awesomeness in Windows and Office, Microsoft may need a CPR soon.

    Extract from http://www.t3.com/news/tablets-to-account-for-nearly-50-of-pc-sales-in-2014:

"According to the latest report from analysts at Canalys, tablet computers will account for nearly 50 per cent of all PCs bought worldwide next year. The report was released on Tuesday.

A total of 285 million tablets are expected to be shipped next year.

The analyst firm revealed that tablet shipments were only half a million units behind desktop and laptop shipments in the third quarter of 2013. "

Spyware Dr, you're absolutely right. This limitation is not easy to breakthrough and tablets itself is not suitable for everything.

My wife used an iPad for reading news initially, until one day I brought her a keyboard. From that day onward, she left her PC idle, forever. But after she got her Mac, she resumed about 30% of work from iPad to Mac.

My daughter got her iPad mini recently. She was not fond of using my iPad because she didn't like using her fingers to draw on it. So, I also gave her a touch pressure sensitive stylus. After that, she abandoned her WACOM drawing tablet.

I didn't like reading ebooks or eMagazines on my PC and not on Mac neither. But now I have 10 magazines on Zinio on my iPad. It eases my eyes a lot and I can zoom in a specific area with just 2 fingers. Same guesture on Mac OS X, but struggling a lot on Windows 8.1 on the virtual machine.

Integration of an iPad and a Mac has much better experience than a Surface 2. I returned a Surface 2 after using it for less than a few days. I would say the single window Office 365 on Surface is really annoying that it even worse than a Windows XP to me! On a Mac, now I can have over 10 desktops on a few displays and the TV together.
