I usually run sfc /scannow at least once a month. The latest scan reported a number of corrupted files. Example follows:

"Could not reproject corrupted file "\??\C:\Windows\SysWOW64 "\ "gptext.dll "; source file in store is also corrupted "

My system is running and performing without problems as it always has. I ran sfc /scannow a number of times with the same results. Is there any way to repair the reported corrupted files short of a re-install of Windows 7 Home Premiun 64Bit or can I ignore the report?

Hi buzz, is it a good practice to run sfc /scannow that often?

I don't see how it could hurt.

I would suggest a Defrag first and then Checkdisc. Neil.

    Incredible.

I didn't know this option existed.

Sounds like an OEM machine may run into possible problems, though...

EDIT: What about an OEM product key? Is that really necessary since the motherboard already knows what the original key is? I've reinstalled XP on a Dell machine before, and there was no need to reactivate Windows.

Hi buzzmag. Running the SFC tool does not need to be routinely run every month. If you suspect that you have corrupt Windows files then that would be when you run the SFC tool.

Are you experiencing any problems with your Windows 7 installation?

    Evan,

No problems with the install. Would this suggest 'if it aint broke don't fix it'?

In my experience, the no-reformat method can cause a problem with my Dell OEM PC. It came with Vista installed and I upgraded to W7. When I tried it on W7, it deactivated my W7 and reported it as possibly counterfeited

Works fine here. Even on Dell.

If you aren't experiencing any problems with your Windows installation then I would not worry about it.

OK. I'll ignore it and mark the thread resolved.
