Short problem description: My camera (Kodak Z-885) takes only MOV videos. Not the greatest quality, but I like the way the camera operates and it's what I've got. I like to upload my family videos to YouTube so the rest of the family can view them. Unfortunately, the sharpness and color balance aren't always that great.

Through giveaway websites I've gotten free copies of SuperEasy Video Booster (optimizes video color balance, sharpness, etc.) and Leawo Video Converter, which does a great job of format conversion. I love what SEVB does to improve my videos; however, after conversion there is *no sound,* so obviously I can't use it.

But today I found that if I first convert the MOV videos to something else, e.g., MPG or AVI, and *then* use the SEVB on them, it does the sound too! So, theoretically, now I can upload the resulting, *improved* video to YouTube rather than the original.

My question: Since I'm using two unrelated programs and two steps to do this improvement and conversion, there are lots of video options involved, and I don't know the first thing about which ones to use. The ones I've tried haven't produced the best quality or the smallest file size.

Can someone please advise me as to what conversion format to use first for the LVC and then for the SEVB so I'll get the best video quality in the smallest output package, before I upload my videos to YouTube? Thanks in advance. :)

Handbrake is free and can convert any format to mp4 or mkv.

Thank you Arie and TonyT, I've been trying both of these programs and others, both free and full-featured, obtained through giveaways, in various combinations, but they either produce very degraded results or take eons to do their job. My guesswork is not giving acceptable results. If I were doing just one step, from MOV to one of the other formats, I'd have about 20+ "blind" tries to get it right, and that would be OK. But when there are two steps involved, that means 20+ times 20+ of trial-and-error testing, which is kind of too much.

I was hoping that someone with a background in video would miraculously pop up and say something like, "Oh, yeah, you just do step 1 to the XYZ format and then step 2 to the ABC format and that will produce great results." (Nothing gambled, nothing won, and there's no harm in asking.)

However, since there doesn't appear to be a "doctor's prescription" for success in this project, I'll just let it go.

    Thanks! :)

You should just be able to use the default settings in Handbrake & get a decent conversion to mkv or mp4. If not, then the quality of the mov is poor.

The problem is that -- yes, I can get a good conversion from MOV to any other format using any of many converters -- BUT I then have to put it through Video Booster to achieve an improvement in sharpness and color balance. It's the TWO steps that are killing the quality. So for me this is a lost cause. Thanks to all! :)

Using a program like Video Booster won't ever give true results IF the original video is of low quality. Your camera takes video at low resolution (640x480), thus there's not much that can be done to improve the video quality.

But you can take better videos by using ONLY the optical zoom & NEVER using the digital zoom. Optical zoom is a factor of the camera lens while digital zoom is done by built in camera software. Digital zoom can enlarge image areas but at the same time reduces image quality (sharpness & color balance).

If really want better videos then get a HD video camera, they are quite inexpensive today and even most newer smart phones have HD video capture. example
