I'm troubleshooting MS Word repeatedly shutting down and then offering to restart teh program. I read online that one of the problems that could make Word do this is when the temp folder is not being emptied. Upon reboot, I saw that AppData/Local/Temp was still full (with many subfolders)--that I saw immediately before I rebooted.

    (1) Should this be empty upon a reboot?

    (2) Its ok to delete all the files, right? Sorry for a stupid question but I've borked things up before thinking "Nothing could go wrong if I do this... "

The easiest way to get to your Temp folder is to type %temp% in the Start Run box.

If you wish to navigate to...C:\Users\(username)\AppData\Local\Temp... you will have to show BOTH hidden and system files in Control Panel/ Folder Options/ View.

Wonder what you have in there that is making it do this?

Not sure what is in there.....

I've made a shortcut on my desktop so I can access it conveniently any time need to.

Is it safe to delete it?

And should it be cleared automatically on reboot?

Hi Paul. The contents of the temp folder doesn't have to be removed on reboot, no. But yes the contents in that folder are safe to remove.

OK, thanks, I just deleted that folder.

I normally have it deleted by a cleanup program I use a few times a month; not sure why this would have been a factor, but a post on the MS Answers forum suggested this, that's all.

Not sure why I got that error message. At any rate, it hasn't been happening for a while now.....

I'd like to keep this open for a few days to make sure this doesn't happen again, then I'll mark it as solved.

You can do that if you like but, it's easy to deselect 'resolved'.
