I've finally had to upgrade to a newer computer and found one with Win7 Home Premium. It does not work right with my company's operations pages (and I knew it wouldn't, and Win8 doesn't either, but I needed the new unit. I don't really want to install an old XP machine beside the new one but I need to access our company's pages).

I've searched the forum here and learned about VirtualPC. To get it I'd have to upgrade to Win7 Professional, which isn't a problem from what I see.

BUT I saw that it needs something about "hardware virtuality" (or similar) enabled in order to work.

I don't see anything like that in my settings. Would it be there now even tho I don't have Win7Pro yet? Or does that mean that even if I bought Win7Pro, VirtualPC still would not work?

    Or other suggestions please?

If your computer's CPU doesn't support hardware-assisted virtualization, you can still use Windows XP Mode by installing an update to Windows 7. Be aware that XP Mode will run much better if hardware-assisted virtualization can be enabled.

Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7

    Thanks Dr.

Since running "better" doesn't seem to be an option using the hardware assisted virtualization, should it be "satisfactory" without it? This is "online" programming, not actually a program installed on my computer.

I'll chat with our company tech support before trying this but these would be the same people that have burdened our company with outdated programming in the first place. Nothing works right other than XP and IE8 or older.

Yes, it'll be fine. (Dependant upon the speed of the computer of course).

You could of course stay with Win7 Home Premium, and use a 3rd party virtualization product (like Oracles VirtualBox).

You'll need a Windows XP user license though, while that is included in Windows 7 Professional.

    Thanks, Arie!

I was actually impressed that for $90 I could upgrade to Pro PLUS get the XP license.

I'll check out the Oracle product tho.
