Running WinXP Pro and have a weird problem with Google Chrome. I was running an older version but then had a problem with it consuming vast resources. So I uninstalled it via Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs. Then I downloaded the current Chrome from Google’s website, and installed it.

It puts an icon on my desktop, but when I double click the icon, nothing happens. So I went into Windows Explorer and found the Chrome.exe file. Double clicking that also produces nothing. I then tried to remove that new version of Chrome via Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, but it won’t remove. In fact, the screen box showing all the installed programs freezes, and the only way I can close it is to close Control Panel via Task Manager.

Can someone please tell me how to get rid of this version of Chrome. I would then try to download one from a different site, like Cnet. Also, what would happen if I tried to install another Chrome without first removing this one?

    Thank you.

    Try Revo Uninstaller (Freeware)

    Thanks, guys.

I'll keep revo in mind. Meanwhile, I ran CCleaner and cleaned out a lot of ****. I then used their option to remove programs, and was able to remove Chrome. **** thing is not there anymore!

Question now is whether I should try to install it again, this time either downloading from a different site, or maybe even trying to find and older version.

    Any suggestions?

My opinion would have been to follow the advice to use Revo uninstaller - Reason is all bloat from Chrome would have been uninstalled if you follow the prompts correctly. HOWEVER if you decide to download and install Chrome again, please use the above site.

I do not recommend downloading any software from C/Net.

    kind regards,

Here is one more who had a hell of a time trying to get rid of Chrome because it would not work anymore, mine got corrupted with WHOT.
Tried re-installing with downloads from 3 or 4 different locations, without success, to many remnants still in the Registry, nothing left in Add-Remove.
I did send a report to Chrome, but no solution from there, so no more Chrome for me.
