Following advice from people on one of the newsgroups I visit concerning long response times, I installed Simple Adblock. It works a treat in speeding up the turn-around times on many sites.

The disturbing thing about it is that every time I start IE8 for the day, it immediately shuts down again with the "found a problem and had to shut down" message. When I query the reason, it lists Adblock as the problem, though I don't understand all the gibberish associated with the problem.

Immediately afterwards, it restarts just fine and isn't a problem the rest of the day. Why would IE get its knickers in a twist over Adblock and then ignore it the rest of the day?

Not WW3, but an interesting glitch. BTW, I have Simple Adblock in my start menu. Maybe if it was something I had to trigger from an icon, this re-start of IE wouldn't be needed. I have an inherent suspicion of any glitches in IE. I don't trust it farther than I can spit.

I also use Chrome and there aren't any problems with Adblock there, but there are some places I visit where IE is necessary. Also, there are some characteristics in Chrome that I don't like, primarily due to not having used it much.

I also get two or three hang-ups every day that require a re-boot and they seem to originate from IE.

A couple of Microsoft sites I visit only work with IE, and with XP as my OS, I can't go higher than IE8.

As I said, not WW3. I've solved the problem for myself by doing most of my browsing through Chrome.

I'll mark the topic "resolved ". Thanks for the comments.
