It appears someone might be getting a bit spiteful in sending the following. This is not fitting for any forum!!!

    User Guide
Please note: images below reflect a registered (and logged in) user.
    Search First

Use the search engine before posting!

Before posting your question, use the search function, and see if your question has been addressed before. Enter some keywords that apply to your question (such as error codes), and do a search.

To enter a search, click the drop down arrow next to the menu item Search. To limit your search to a specific forum, you can click the words Advanced Search. Using Search can help save hours of time wasted by our regular contributors having to constantly answer the same questions.

    Post in the Appropriate Forum

Be sure to post in the appropriate place

To post a question or start a new discussion about a particular topic, first choose the most appropriate forum. For example, if your question is dealing with 3rd party software (MS Office, Lotus, Games, etc.) do not simply post it in the Windows XP forum just because your windows version is Windows XP. These questions belong in the Other PC Software forum.

Only post the same topic in one forum - posting the same topic in multiple forums isn't allowed.

    Post New Thread

How to post a new question/discussion item

A question or discussion post is known as a Thread, so if you want to post a new question or discussion post, click the New Thread button - after choosing the appropriate forum.

An individual message within our forums is known as a Post. Posts are grouped together to form discussions about a particular topic or question, known as Threads.

When starting a new thread, make sure you follow our Posting Rules.

In almost all cases you should start your own thread, even if your problem seems similar to a recently posted problem.

    Reply to a Thread

Add to a discussion by posting a reply

To continue adding to a discussion, you can use the Post Reply button to add your comments. Remember, replies should not be new questions or new topics, but simply comments to what has already been posted in the thread.

If you have received an answer to your question/problem, please post back if the suggestion helped you or not.

If you were given several suggestions, mention which suggestion worked for you. This will help other people in the future!

Replies should also confirm to our Posting Rules.

    Mark your Thread as Solved

    Mark your Thread as Solved

It is considered courteous to post a reply if you have been able to resolve your problem, or received an answer to your question.

If you were given multiple suggestions/solutions, it is also helpful if you would list the solution that worked for you.

Once you have posted those details, when still looking at your thread, near the top of your thread you’ll see Thread Tools. Click the down arrow to expand the drop down menu, at the bottom of it you’ll see Mark this thread as solved. Click on it to mark your thread as solved.

If later you find that the problem has returned, and you had previously marked your thread as solved, follow the steps above. Instead 'Mark this thread as solved' you will see that in this case Mark this thread as unsolved is listed.

Note: The option to mark your thread as solved is only available when you are logged into your account, if you see only the option Show printable version under Thread Tools you are not logged into your account. Not all forums (notably the Malware Removal forum) have the option to mark your thread solved, so if the only option missing is the Mark this thread as solved option it is likely not available for that forum.

Note II: Please note that the check-mark you'll see in the image on the Thread Tools menu next to the "Mark this thread as solved" text is just an image. It doesn't mean that "Mark this thread as solved" has been applied.

When you have applied Mark this thread as solved, you'll see that your thread title will be preceded by [Resolved].

    Reset Unread Post Count

How to Reset Your Unread Post Count

You'll notice that near the top of the sites Web page there is a welcome message that also lists the number of unread posts. When you first register this will be a very high number, usually several thousand.

To reset this number, click on the Quick Links menu and click the Mark Forums Read item on the drop-down menu.

Each time you re-visit, the site will show you the number of unread posts. If you click on that number, you'll be taken to a page that lists all these posts. Any time you want to reset this number, just follow the procedure above.

    Why are older threads "closed"
We think it is best to close threads that are over 60 days old. If you have a problem, and you see it addressed in one of those older (and closed) threads, and the solutions don't apply to you, start a new thread. You should even mention in your post (with a link to the old thread) that you already tried the solutions offered, but that they didn't work.

If you are a participant in the thread, or have relevant information to that thread, use the "Contact Us" link at the bottom of the page and send us a message explaining why you want to post to the thread, and include a link to the thread. We will re-open the thread & send you a message when we have done so.

    What are BBS Team Members?
BBS Team Members are a number of users who have shown great knowledge on certain subjects, and where therefore asked to join the Windows BBS Team. These users have less "powers" then Moderators, but they are closely involved in the daily operations of this Forum in an advisory role.

    What is with the Advertising?
The WindowsBBS displays advertising for 3rd parties.

Like every other business, we need money to pay our bills. This forum is run by volunteers, so costs are low, but there are (Web) server, bandwidth and software licensing costs that have to be met.

We run banner advertising on the site. The banners are displayed between posts. For guest users multiple banners per "thread ", for registered users 1 or 2 banners per page.

We also run "in-text" ads. This are little pop-up ads that initially only display as a double-blue underline. When you put your mouse over one of these links, a small ad window will pop-up. These Windows are clearly labeled as advertisements by the words "Ad Choices" at the top of the window. They also include a "Close" button. This is how they look:

"In-text" ads are only shown to visitors, registered users do not see these.

If you do not want to see any ads, we suggest you take out a subscription (starting from $24.95 a year). One of the benefits from being a WindowsBBS subscriber is that you will not see any advertising.

    Vote on Posts
Below each post you'll see the text Did you find this post helpful? followed by a "Thumbs Up" and "Thumbs Down" image. Clicking either will add your vote to the post.

If a post helped you solve a problem, please consider adding your positive rating, so that future visitors can quickly spot valuable information.

Posts that didn't solve your problem shouldn't be rated negative. The negative rating should only be used on occasions where the information posted exaggerated your problems or contains (factual) inaccurate information.

Please help make WindowsBBS an even more useful Website by adding your votes!

Also LumberGumRubber, please STOP creating new threads about the e-mails that you are getting from Windowsbbs. If you wish to stop receiving those e-mails then click on your User CP and then click on Edit Options and under Messaging and Notification set the Default Thread Subscription Mode to No E-mail Notification.

I belong to several forums both Tech and non tech. They all have the option to send or not send an e-mail if somebody posted in a thread that you posted in. Sure makes it easier than hunting for your thread or to see what has been suggested.

I will only say this once, but yea, next thread I see about it you'll be banned. You posted an additional 2 new threads in the Windows 8 forum & posted a reply to another (unrelated) thread. There's no reason to do that.

I owe you guys a serious apology and so I DO apologize. Instead of clicking on the "this thread is located at" I'm clicking on the "read the user's guide. "

What I've done here is stupidity at its best (or worst)!!!

Arie, if you ban me from this forum, you'll have all the reason in the world to do so. Again, I'm terribly sorry for my brainless mistake! I think I'll take my time before asking something on here again just out of total shame!!!
