This error can occur if two devices that are installed on your computer have been assigned the same I/O ports, the same interrupt, or the same Direct Memory Access channel (either by the BIOS, the operating system, or both). This error message can also appear if the BIOS did not allocate enough resources to the device.

Make sure your BIOS is up-to-date. Make sure that motherboard drivers are installed.

For your BIOS: Check your motherboard manual & manufacturers web site. As for your motherboard drivers: insert the CD & follow prompts.

I expect it is desktop. not a laptop computer.

Check what cards it has in the add-in slots. If there are any cards you don't need, remove them. For example, if it has a dial-up modem card and you don't use it, take it out.

If you have a few cards you need, you can try swapping them in the slots. That will reallocate the resources.

    Hello Arie,
re your reply: I have 3x queries, as my pc is very basic, so need clear and precise details.
    a) I don't have a motherboard manual, is there any other way to find out?
    b) I went on the link you advised and downloaded the 'driver restore' but it will not install. it shows an error message 'Error 1330.A file that is required cannot be installed because th cabinet file C:\Documents and Settings\...\Config~1.cab has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt. Error 266 was returned by WinVerifyTrust.'
Can you please advise on how to deal with this?
    c) You advise " for the motherboard drivers, insert the cd and follow prompts"
What cd are you refering to?
    Regards

a: I don't know your hardware, check at Packard bell's Download Center

b: No idea what you downloaded, but it looks like you got a corrupted download.

c: The CD that should ship with every respectable system. No idea if PB supplies CD's, otherwise you should be able to download them from their site.

Another thing: Is the system still working, even with those errors? If so, I would leave it at that. Your system is old, so you run the risk of complicating things if you try to 'solve' an error that has no real-life effects.

I suspect this is not the same computer as listed in System Details, with it running Win2000 SP4.
Get Siw 2011, scroll down the page for the free version. It will identify your motherboard for you, and a lot of other stuff.

    Hello Guys,
Thanks for the help so far.
Sorry I should have stated the pc is a Dell Dimension 4100.
(I also have 2x Pacard Bell laptops which I have had issues you have helped me with in the past)
The pc is running ok but the problems I have not just the IDE conflict but also a dll problem (which I queried in the 'Legacy Windows OS' forum but have not yet had a response) which when I try to download anything gives me an error and will not download.
I have tried the System File care, using my win200 cd when required but still have the problem
Could these 2x issues be related?
I downloaded SIW as suggested but cannot run as I get an error message "The procedure GetFirmwareEnvironmentVariableA could not be located in the DLL KERNEL32.dll
    Regards

    Hello,
I installed the bios versionA11 and did the drivers from the resource cd as suggested and it appears that the IDE conflict has been resolved.
    Thanks very much for that.
However I do still have the dll error problem when I try to install things for example: I downloaded a new flash player (as suggested earlier) but when I try to install it I get the error message "The procedure entry point SetDllDirectoryW could not be located in the DLL KERNEL32.dll"
Also when I try to install SIW (as suggested earlier) I get the error message "The procedure GetFirmwareEnvironmentVariableA could not be located in the DLL KERNEL32.dll" .
Is this something can be resolved in this "Hardware" forum or should I post in a different one?
    Regards

    Try running the command:

    sfc /scannow

(Note the space between the "c" and "/ ")

The System File Checker tool's /scannow parameter tells SFC to scan all protected system files and replace incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions. This command also repopulates the DLLCache folder with the most recent versions of protected files. This requires access to the Windows installation source files and also the installed Service Pack files. You are usually prompted for the location of these files during the scan operation.

    Hello ,
I run the sfc scannow and used the installation disk as requested but I still have the problem.
Regarding this problem, for some time now, every time I restart my pc it opens the File Checker and I go through the procedure (many, many times) but it doesn't rectify it
    Regards

Yea, which version are you trying to install? Windows 2000 compatible version is Flash Player 10.1.102.64

Probably same as for Adobe, although I can't find system requirements. Lots of software will no longer be compatible with an OS that belongs in a museum :D (all support for W2K ended in July 2010).
