My current OS is Windows 7 and e-mails through Windows Live Mail. A friend sent me pictures saved in an E-mail. Pictures are .jpg, clicking insert show a screen with a number of .jpg and boxes showing a red X. I have very limited knowledge on pictures sent by E-mail. Can anyone kindly advise steps required to open these pictures, thank you.

Try going to the tab to the left of Home and go to Options/Safety Options/Security Tab and take the check out of Block images...
Or if they really are attached: Tools | Options | Security. Uncheck: "Do not allow attachments ...

To save them, just Right Click | Save Picture.

Bill, to set the record, I am using WLM for E-mail work. I am not able to set left of Home Options/Safety Options/Security Tab, probably I am not looking in the proper place in WLM.

Do you have a blue tab on the top that has a Down Arrow next to what looks like a couple of pieces of paper then next to that it has tabs that are Home, Folders, View and Accounts? If so, click on the tabe that has the little down arrow and go to where I told you to go.

Here is a picture of the tab. Go to the Safety Options there. http://www.yoingco.com/windows_live_mail_settings_windows_7.htm

WLM has been checked, settings carried out where necessary, computer rebooted. Received .jpg pictures remain as : 1.jpg [x], 2.jpg [x], 3.jpg [x] etc. it could be picture pixels set to high by the sender?

Could be the way that they are sent. It don't matter which e-mail client that they were sent from. I see this question a lot on other forums.

One thing you could try is to ask the person who sent you the e-mail if they still have it and if so, have them save the pictures and then attach them to the e-mail and I bet that you will see them now.

    Read the following.

Mr Bill, I have contacted the sender, to send me again pictures in question.I looked again at E-mail my friend sent, the attatchment is represnted with an image of a large sheet of paper, with large blue coloured letter "E ", printed word Gmail Images in xmas.htm . Previous inserts from various sources did not show that type of icon, or did I experienced difficulty in opening insert..

Mr Nill, my friend sent me a further copy of the pictures. Down load was refused as "Prihibited, too dangerous ", inserts were immediately removed by WLM.

Did you do this what I posted in post # 2?

Try going to the tab to the left of Home and go to Options/Safety Options/Security Tab and take the check out of Block images...
Or if they really are attached: Tools | Options | Security. Uncheck: "Do not allow attachments ...

That is your problem as to why you got the message.

Bobby, That way you should get pics and attachments with no problem. MS did this back I believe as far as Win 98 as most viruses back then came as an executable type of attachment.

Sending pictures doesn't really have anything to do with those settings. The only other thing is like I said earlier is how they are being sent. I get them like that once in a while and also sometimes when I get e-mails from people and go to forward them it will tell me that one or more pictures can't be sent. It is the way the the originator sent the e-mail to start with.

Mr Bill, you are absolutely correct in what you say. Senders of E-mails that contain pictures mostly inform me, it is my computer at fault, better still my provider Virginmedia will tell me that their end is not at fault, even on one occasion cable to my house had been severed by their manhole cover.
