Hi ... I have this Asus laptop N56V which is driving me crazy with the touchpad . When I am trying to type anything the cursor jumps all over the place and I am spending time to re correct what I am trying to type . Anyone know how I can disable this function ? It came preinstall with W7 home but I upgraded to Windows 8 pro .

Have you tried the fn key and I think it is the F8 key and see if this disables it? May be one of the other F keys and not the F8 key.

Sounds like Drivers for the Touchpad aren't compatible with W8. You should be able to change Touchpad use in Control Panel. Neil.

On that model I think fn+F9 toggles the touchpad on/off. (The touchpad is huge and sensitive which makes it easy to bump with your thumbs, palm of your hand, etc.).

When trying that options is there anything that would show its been disable ? More or less how can I tell ? I guess it would just stops moving around . Well I know its not working . its moving around now . The thing is I don't even have to touch the pad for the cursor to move , just as long my hands move over the pad it does it . I guess I will try the driver and see if it help . Thanks

On most laptops they use the UltraNav keyboard/touchpad "manager ".

I haven't used a HP laptop for a while. Go to their website for your model (look up the driver downloads for your model), check anything that might relate to a HID (Human Interface Device).... namely UltraNav, and install it.

Hopefully, the Windows 7 software will run on Win 8.

My wife has an ASUS netbook also. We run XP, in which you can't disable the touchpad. Son in law took a chunk of clear plastic pakaging material from a toy my grandson got, cut it to a size thet rested on the rim of the touchpad, clear of the surface, and glued it in place. The material is stiff enough that even if you touch it, it doesn't deflect far enough for you to activate the touchpad.

If I ever meet the encephalophallic who invented the touchpad, I will definitely have very angry words to say! Our next computer will for sure have a Windows version that allows the touchpad to be disabled.

I was suggesting UltraNav, which is on the laptops I am familiar with. Synaptics is the main supplier of touchpad systems. You might find drivers on their website.

I like the touchpad, not quite as much as a mouse. I use both hands, one for motion, the other for the clicking buttons. I don't like "tap clicking" and if you drift over to the scrolling "lines" on the side and bottom of the touchpad.

Did you figure out the meaning of my pseudo-medical term, Terry? A friend was using "Richard Cranium ", but I decided to go into the medical dictionary to come up with a version less likely to trip the censorship algorithms.
