    Hi Guys,

Now I know this is WindowsBBS, but just General Discussion, so I thought I will risk it, won't complain if you turf it.
I have on of those little Raspberry Pi's and a Motorola Atrix Lapdock, trying to make a Laptop or something close to it.
I just wonder if anyone has been playing around with one of these projects as well. I am only just beginning and therefore gathering useful information and tips.

    cheers

Sounds interesting Bill. In the words of Sergeant Schultz "I know nothing" so what is a Raspberry Pi?
    It sounds delicious. Cheers Neil.

Hi Bill, just expanded my knowledge base by "Googling" and Wiki.
I'm now wondering whether I could make the laptop go better with a 512MB Raspberry!
I still haven't seen an explantion for the name. Neil.

Hi Neil, long time no see.
No there is no logical explanation to that name. Only thing is their Logo is a Raspberry, but where the Pi comes from???????????????
There is quite a bit written up about them with some videos on Yutube as well.
Have ordered hopefully some of the correct required cables on ebay.
    cheers

Bill, Pi and it's math form may have something to do with the name. What cables are you after? Neil.

Thanks Doc, I thought you would have a look in. I've spent a bit of time looking at their web site and Forums since Bill Posted.
Looks to me as though anyone who has used Linux and is conversant, will have a ball.
We're looking at $70.00NZD plus freight for the 512MB Version 2 and ex Australia, it will cost us about $100.00NZD
The range of cases available is interesting and quite colourful too. Neil.

Thanks Neil, looks like you are curious about the Raspberry Pi, well I had ordered my Pi back in early July and received it two weeks ago v.B the 512mb, I don't think you can buy the 256 mb v.A any more and neither should you.
I have been googling lots and finding more and more interesting Forums, a special thanks to the Doc for your information especially regarding the the Name, it is good to know how it came about since many people when mentioning the Raspberry Pi are curious how this name came about.
Neil I have a little black box with openings for the various connections.
One point I don't particularly like about the board is, it has no fixing holes or anything else to mount, I have seen one made fro Lego Blocks
My first project is to run my Logitech Squeezbox Touch with the Pi connected to the Motorola Atrix Lap Dock. The Squeezbox Touch is only able to run mini LMS but I have found a Forum that have a download for for a Squeeze Plug, including several media players including LMS.
Doc I will keep a close watch on the Nottingham Linux User Group, and will most likely end up getting very useful information on Linux from there

Thanks guys for showing interest in the Pi.

Bill, your Aussie $ is running strong and the Kiwi gets done on exchange rate. It's currently costing $1.20NZD for $1AUD.
My son recently purchased a set of tail-lamps for his Peugeot S/W from Germany as the exchange rate was pretty good. He got both the L & R lamps for less than the NZ Dealer wanted for one lamp!!! Freight included!
I'll keep that in mind if I want to Raspberry. Neil.
