Hi ... I have this laptop > Compaq Presario A900 ... S/N CND8053ZQS .... P/N KC376UA ABC ..... I find it very hard to find drivers for windows xp or windows 7 . I can't believe Compaq only has drivers for Vista which is the original operating system . Is it possible that only one OS can be install on it ?

No for the only 1 OS on it. Do you have something not working as why you are looking for drivers? Usually, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Seen to many times people update drivers because there was one and have more problems than Carter has Little Liver Pills.

Its not mine , its a friend of mine who want to install either xp or windows 7 . The original Vista , he doesn't like it . I have a xp retail disc I want to sell to him since I no longer use it but I need to know first whether there is drivers for it . Or if possible windows 7 oem version which he will buy if there is drivers for that .

I feel sorry for folks that are in that situation as my friend . I think its a crime these so call manufacturers are allow to do such things to their customers . Oh well, I guess if one really wanted to find drivers one could try the hardware manufacturers site and see, but that would take a lot of work . Thanks any way

More manufacturers would probably be willing to supply drivers for the various versions of Windows if there was enough demand to support development costs.

The manufacture IS the place to look for drivers. Not MS.

I don't and don't think that others feel sorry for folks in that situation. Bought an OS and it was working fine. Now wants to go backwards or forwards and has a complaint. Don't think so.

I wasn't referring to the manufacturer that the laptop is from ( Compaq ) . I was talking about the actual hardware for each hardware that is being used . I doubt if the motherboards are actually made by Compaq , could be wrong . I was think maybe Compaq gets motherboards and what not from third party companies and that's what I am talking about going to for the drivers, but that would actually mean taking things apart. I still say one should be at least allow to upgrade their system to next higher operating system . That's what I always look for before buying any laptops as to whether they have drivers for other OS.

Compaq designed a laptop to work with the latest Windows OS, which at the time was Vista, and then put the finished product in a box. That's it. They are done sinking money into that model.

If you then want to alter their product, that's entirely up to you. However, you can't expect them, or anyone else, to be willing to start spending money to help you accomplish your goal.

Hi, I updated a Compaq Presario 1700 which was originally running ME to XP and managed to locate Drivers to set it up.
Increased RAM capacity and CPU and size of HDD and it runs quite sweet. But I wouldn't bother to play in the future as Laptops are easily picked up Ex Trade-in at realistic prices.

Dude, When I realize there no other OS available but the original is when I ended and wasn't going to go any further with it . All I'm saying is IF " one " meaning anyone were to try and find other drivers would be by what I mention above post . I wasn't asking for assistance for it . And another thing I still say it $u c ks that the manufacturers that make PCs / Laptops don't supply drivers for the next newer version OS . I feel sorry for my friend who own this laptop , he stuck with Vista ...

The only reason why you were able to do so was because they had drivers for a newer OS on their site but if you were like my friend who laptop isn't lucky to do so is because Compaq didn't supply any other drivers but the original
